    hindupashtun,

You should not get effected by what others say including me. My thoughts and expressions are religious and political, but this thinking process does not guide my friendship. While I have serious issues with Shiite doctrine, I still do have a few Shiite friends. If in the future, I do talk about Hinduism in some relativity to pashtunwali, please don't feel like I am making you feel left out.

Im talking about the cultural importance of Pashtunwali, and how it defines who is a Pashtun or not!!

I think as long as one follows this, they are Pashtun. I know that is a black and white thinking, but that is so far my understanding of it.

Hindupashtun, do you follow pashtunwali, or define yourself as pashtuns based on parentage only?

Same question goes to atheist questions. Pashtun definition is really about the followers of pashtunwali whoever they may be, and Im talking about the strict followers.

Religion is something that you believe but a ethic is what you are.
so you being a hindu don't really mean that you are not pashtun.

Culture cannot predate Islam, a basic understaning of Islam is that it submission to the One God, Almighty and high. As Muslims, we believe this commandment of submission has been in effect since the onset of creation, it has only been the name it is known by as of the final prophet (pbuh).

As for the question, since ethnicity is inherited religious beliefs, or lack thereof do not nullify your ethnic identity.

Will it create problems for you within the aforementioned community? Most likely, yes. Being a minority, in any sense, unfortunately is often a catalyst for opposition and scrutiny.

Is it a problem for Muslims? It's not necessarily a problem, in the context you're using it. But as Muslims we do feel a sense of brotherly/sisterly responsibility to inform you of God.

But you will go to hell for being an idol worshiper.

THIS is what needed to be said!

People want the best of all worlds. Well, you won't get it. Every good world comes with its flaws (which is actually what makes the goods in living).

Now, passionate Pashtuns will defend 'til the end the assertive that Pashtuns are a tribe with a History of "more than 4 thousand years". Good.

Then, we have Islam. Which happens to be a religion of some more than 1000 years.

So, magically, Pashtuns are Muslims since 4 thousand years ago when being Muslim was something only possible since some 1000 years ago? Good luck with making sense out of that.

Yes, the majority of Pashtuns are Muslims. That doesn't imply that non-Muslims are not Pashtuns.

Ethnicity, unlike something I've read in here, is not the same as religion or belief.

First you're born human, you might happen to be Pashtun, blond or brunette... you grow up and might be short or tall, fat or thin... then you might be intelligent or not so much, bitter or sweet, Muslim or Christian...

The belief in Islam (or anything else, for that matter) is a cultural characteristic and, as such, it is NOT inherited, but a result of your social environment. And must be distinguished from human nature and/or personality.

I agree with Gaia and Afghanprincess. Islam should be a personal matter. No where should it depend on interchange someones Religion.

Very nice thread Worora; as I showed your thread to my hindu friends in school and they wouldn’t believe it that we have Hindu Pukhtana. As a recall to all Puhtunana that we need real, true Pukhtana who will never, ever be ashamed of their identity as to be Pukhtana! Also we Pukhtana don’t have to think about culture badges in Pukhtunkhawali, I mean you are hindu and I am sunny. That’s different and that’s between me and Allah. The most important thing is being a pure Pukhtun who will go further to inspired Pukhto culture, bring education, build school and hospitals and give pencil to kids instead of gun and never let beHaya and bezata (spoil) Pukhto culture by his/ her action.

Personally, I think and I am believed foremost that I am Pukhtun before anything else. That’s my foremost identity and character in me; all the other things come later, including me as a Muslim. Simply because my ethnicity as Pukhtun is in my blood, in my vain, but my identity as a Muslim is a religious identity that always subject to change. I Pukhtun, however is not a subject to change because even if I choose to change religion Islam, I can never choose to change the blood that proceeding in me and it will be passed on to my kids. This is not to say, though, that I am not Muslim or anything. Just that I am Pukhtun before I am Muslim.

So don’t think Pukhtun Worora. You are our brother and do not consider yourself as HinduPukhtun. Just label yourself as a real Pukhtun who will sacrifice himself for Pukhtunwali.
