I know many conservative and traditional Pashtuns do not have televisions. I am talking about the ones who can afford them but still choose not to own one.
There are many reasons why we shouldn't watch tv.
And there are reasons why some might argue why we need tv.
Please present your case for and against television at home!
Btw: at home means: where your wife, daughters, mothers, sons, grandsons little brothers etc are.
If you live alone, please tell us about your situation and if you are for or against owning a tv.
who doesnt own a tv these days..i can see the arguments for and against but i think having a tv is a good idea, i agree there is alot of **** on telly thats against our religion but thats ones own choice if you wanna watch it, just like the internet i suppose.

I am more on my mac than watching tv. The only reason i watch tv is when i watch one of my shows on demand or its timing, my friends come over sometime to watch movies because we have a big tv with surround system, then sometimes my brothers friends come over to play XBOX.
I watch the Afghan channels and some Islamic channels, like Peace tv. Or once in a full moon, i am home by myself during the weekend, i lay on the couch and watch movies and tv shows......
my parents have never allowed us to have tvs in our rooms, and till today now that we are all older, we still dont.
We have 3 tvs. The family living room, the game room, and my mom and dad's room.

LOL my brother would do that all the time. My brother watches a lot of tv....mostly his tv shows, his XBOX, and like the history channel. My parents only watch the Afghan channel, the news, and educational stuff on tv (Earth, animal planet, etc). As a child, my father would tell us the television was the 'devil's box.' lol i actually believed himOriginally posted by Shaed View Postlol our house is abit diff, widescreen downstairs in living room, and front room, bros room with ps3/sky etc then my room with xbox and what have ya...i remember when we was younger dad never really stopped us from watching telly but he'd shout if we didnt go mosque to pray etc and i remember power rangers used to come on in mornings like 9am and me and my 2 bro's would sneak downstairs and watch it then run up once we heard dad gettin up lol

It is the same here, we have an old one, that did not go digital, for my son mostly. Otherwise we all have PCs or laptops. I see little point in TV and I get frustrated having all the commercials, and it simply is not worth the expense. Really there is so much on it that simply does not interest me, and that which might, well there are simply other ways to get that info.Originally posted by afghan View Postwe do have a tv at home but not connected to any cable, or antena. this way my children are only watcing DVDs, cartoons.

True indeed. I was planning on purchasing a T.V for my gaming needs, but I figured its an unnecessary expense.Originally posted by Rabia10 View PostIt is the same here, we have an old one, that did not go digital, for my son mostly. A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
