Punjabi and Indian culture is very colourful and flamboyant in terms of dress, music, food, customs and appears very attractive to most people.
But there is something about the simplicity and quiteness of Pashtun culture that appeals to me and gives me a very peaceful feeling .

      • According to Karachi, Apparently scores ...scratch that ...HORDES of Pashtun women are running away to marry these rather flamboyant men hahahaha

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

          • I don't understand how you all make fun of Punjabis, Pakistanis, Indians, when day by day Pashtuns are getting genetically and culturally closer to them.

Many Afghans, especially women, marry into Pakistani and Indian families. No one can deny this, I've seen it many times. It is mostly the low-class, uneducated types though, but it still happens nonetheless.

You make fun of Punjabi culture for being tacky and colorful but I don't see any difference for Afghans:

I agree, but I think Pashtun culture is definitely changing now to accommodate Indian subcontinent influences.

North Indian and Persian culture is 'soft' and feminine, whereas traditional Pashtun culture is tribal and 'rough', that's why Tajik and Indian/Pakistani influences don't gel nicely with Pashtun culture in my opinion.

Here's an interesting bit about those Pakistani-influenced 'opium mansions' in Kabul:-

""The construction process in Little Pakistan is straightforward; it is called ‘copy-paste architecture’. First, take a few pictures of a house in Peshawar. Second, shun the architect and go straight to the building contractor; an architect is not seen to be needed for this type of construction. Next, an Afghan-Pakistani construction team comes to Kabul, working more cheaply than a local construction team, which would have to be paid higher wages. The members of these teams arrive after the winter, and work for six to nine months, living together at the building site. They earn their money and go back to their families in Pakistan. When the harsh Afghan winter hits, or when the cash runs out, the project is put on pause, to be resumed when the temperatures rise or when new money becomes available.

Both builders and homeowners prefer houses that rely heavily on ‘modern’ conveniences, seeing them as symbols of prosperity. Likewise, the balconies and roof terraces are better suited to a sub tropical climate than to the frigid winters and the summer dust storms of Kabul. Already, the folly of these designs has begun to make new homeowners reconsider. The rich Afghan families living in these palaces froze during the very cold winter of 2004/5 and baked during the hot summer that followed. As winter 2007/8 was again a long and cold one, many families refused to spend another winter in their glossy new premises, leaving many of the houses abandoned with the owners trying to rent them out to foreigners.

Then there is the cultural factor. Massive houses built next to each other on small plots of land stand in stark contrast to Afghanistan’s conservative culture, where family privacy is highly valued. Indeed, in this cheek-by-jowl style of building, large outer parts of the house, such as balconies and roof terraces, will never be used."" • Very interesting getting the point of view from an afghan on the ground. Most of the people here, from either side of the durand, are diaspora/expats.

In Pakistan 3 types people build new fancy houses. Middle class, upper middle class and elite/rich people. Kabul houses in "opium rich" area look like that of middle class in Pakistan. You get what you pay for.

While in case of middle class because of their uneducated background don't know or care about architects. And obviously these will also costs more. But in some cases even money isn't factor, people outside main big cities are just not educated enough or care about designs.

upper middle class houses usually found in big cities like Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad.

Rich people homes examples would be Nawaz Sharif Rewind home, Imran Khan bani gala home etc

                  Kabul fancy houses

tbh I've have started to see examples of upper middle class houses even in relatively smaller cities in Pakistan. Soon they may find their way to Kabul.

Yeah, I didn't mean Pakistanis themselves have houses like that. I just meant the designs and builders are imported from there.

Although it would be cool if modern Afghan houses drew inspiration from their traditional style of housing (e.g. walled compounds, private courtyards, flat roofs, neutral earthy/mud colours) instead of wholesale copying western or Pakistani middle class architecture, build according to the country's climate and cultural norms.

Yes that could be a problem...but in terms of race and gene pool...a few women going to Indian genepool is not as problematic as our men importing Indic wives...because if the men marry Indic women, we import Desi genetics into our genepool and overtime we become more Indian/Australoid, where as if some few women are married off to outside our borders, it doesn't affect our genepool...provided the offsprings don't come back into our genepool...Though I would prefer if we don't give away our women to Indics at all...

I thought cultural differences with Persians and Tajiks were too big to race mix with them, despite similar racial/historic/national backgrounds, yet we are giving off our beautiful girls to completely unrelated desi australoids...this makes not much sense...

race mixing on any noticeable level is not good...specially race mixing with unrelated races such as Desis/Indics (Australoids race)

worse is if you look at how many Indics there are, our total population is like not even 1% compared to their total amount ....if any big scale world wide race mixing goes on, the entire world will look Indian/Desi. lol

If....If any race mixing must go on, I would prefer if we inseminate all Desi women with our DNA and make Desis look like us,... than them making us look like them (Australoid)...it's like a genetic battle of the races, you obviously don't want your race to go extinct/absorbed by another race who happens to have a 1000x bigger size population...if they want to race mix with us, then it's better if they become like us, than us becoming like them, our race and phenotype genetically win over theirs.

Because objectively speaking this phenotype looks unquestionably superior/better/aesthetically more pleasing to the eyes:

                      than this phenotype:

                      Even desis agree.

lasty...I want to say, that I am not racist...I am more of a realist...one is being hateful, the other seeing things/world as they are/it is....

Its afghan war effect, refugees are going back with lot of Pakistan influence including houses they see in Peshawar. Not to forget cricket, urdu, trucks etc like you said.

Architecture changes with time.Plus the house designs that some of the posts here are pointing towards, are not 'Desi' or Indian or Punjabi architecture. It is simply the style adopted by Urban Pakistanis and Afghans.I don't agree with relating it to culture.
