I am not sure what to say as I myself have listened to Edward Maya but not live.
Are people reacting strongly because its a western musician and not Pakistani or is it the fact the males and females are dancing togehter?

O please. They are dancing. It's not end of the world. As if it's not pretty normal for women to be brought to a hujra for the entertainment of men during weddings in places like Peshawar. They just sit and the women dance for them.
Where was the outrage when this 12 year old was providing entertainment for these men?? At least the Romanian man is not underaged. How come these middle aged men are shamelessly dancing like wild hogs in front of this child doesn't shock anyone?? Where else is exploiting a 12 year old normal so I can make a similar comparison..??

Sometimes I think our people are really stupid and don't understand how their actions can give excuse to extremists to curb their legitimate freedoms. Now Pashtun parents who send their daughters to school will think twice if they think this is the kind of things which go on in schools. The mentality of SOME of our people is that as long as the girl who is doing the dancing is not Pashtun, it doesn't matter. Most of the dancers tend to be non Pashtuns who learnt Pashto be it in Pashto movies, Mujra or what not. We are hypocrites in short and there is no denying it. music doesn't have to be vulgar. pashtuns have no problem participating in immoral behaviour behind closed doors but anything that reminds them of that behaviour remotely, pisses them off in front of others.

^ Shut your stupid face. I have never in my life seen afghans dance in a concert, in front of a performing artist. That is something that can be expected of you liceheads. Give me an example of where a 12 year old child was thrown money at in front of men while she sung lyrics like that, in Afghanistan.
People will do what they want to do. If you don't want to be immoral, fix your own behaviour. You are just so very terrified that after seeing this, you and your women will have no power over their own actions and may participate in things like this which is why it bothers you so much. You are the people who walk your women in burqas in your villages and then are okay with them wearing skinny jeans and five shades of pink on their faces the minute they step foot in to places like New York.
