lip service 2 pashtu.... Afghanitan is a Fars zubaan state... south is underdevopled and the north which belongs to them is rich and propererous in compasrison... most afghans ( i use the term loosely) can speak Dari yet farsi Zubaan can barely speak pashtu... very few of them... as for Pakistan it is worse than Afghanistan

I'm disappointed that a lot of pro-Pakistan, pan-Islamist and "status quo Afghanistan" supporters have not voiced their opinions in this thread.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

What is more important to us as Pashtuns? Pashtunwali. Would a non-Pashtun care for my Pashtun sensibilites? No.Would I allow a non-Pashtun to rule me? No.
Do I want to be ruled by a non-Pashtun? No. Would I fight to be free from the foreign rule? Yes. Does this all sound too unreal? No, it does not sound illusory to a true Pashtun.

So what is racism to you, Nazia? My statement has more nationalist grounding than racist one. As a Pashtun I think that Pashtuns would be more sensitive towards my issues rather than non-Pashtuns. Jews favor Jews. Chinese favor Chinese. And dogs favor dogs than cats. So I favor Pashtuns. That does not mean I look down upon Jews, Chinese, and dogs, hence no intended racism.

Pashtuns have not been ruled by just Punjabis but a number of other warriors too, if we delve into the history. The question asked here, however, was intended to know one's sensibilites towards being ruled by a foreigner (non-Pashtun)--Arab, Jew, American, Punjabi, African, or dog.

A Punjabi also qualifies as a non-Pashtun. For me, Pashtun nationalism is above anything. As long as he is a true Pashtun, I don't care if he is a non-muslim.
Islam is a religion. It is concerned with divinity.
Nationalism is a political ideology. It is concerned with a Nation.
They kill you for playing music since they think it is Haraam. But I still listen to music.

this is not what your religion promotes now does it? I thought in Islam nationalism is haram?

On the contrary to what you said, I say it is OUR LACK of Pashtun nationalism which has brought us to this state besides many other reasons. You are on Pashtun forum (not on a Pakistani or religious forum), calling yourself a Pashtun and feeling happy about it.Yet when it comes to show your Pashtun nationalism you shy away to declare it to avert the wrath of others (including both tangible and intangible entities), or you don't feel that it is worth consideration. And on the top of that, you think that those who are working/calling for the interests of Pashtuns (the nationalists and hence their nationalism) are good-for-nothing.

I do have a green passport but I consider myself from Pakhtunkhwa rather than Islamic republic of Pakistan.Pakistani-manufactured Talibans (TTP)killed >100 Pashtuns and over 120 got wounded in yet another suicide blast in Mohmmand Agency (they are Pashtuns) and both Pakistani establishment and media ignore it completely. You still expect me to sing "Jeevay jeevay Pakistan"?

I think I am not (and will never be) that insensitive to the misery of my people.

                Gulalai, I disagree with you.

                Do you consider yourself Pakistani?

I logged in with my cell yesterday so I couldn't make any big posts. Having allies is acceptable but having them as your masters and directly taking orders from them is another thing. Being in a system whereby your highest authority would almost inevitably by from a foreign culture is again, another thing.

I agree with your Soviet Union comment in part though. The Central Asian republics are far better off than the Western backed Middle-East and Pakistan. That's especially true when you compare their secular, progressive societies with the mad, ranting Mullahs in the streets of Cairo and Islamabad.

                      Option 1:

Only Afghans should govern Afghans, and others even Muslims should not be given this right. This is only fair and we Afghans are not inferior to any, infact we have remained Kings and Emperors, we are a Martial Race, We rule others, others do not rule us.

Khushaal that is the past, and it is time for Pashtuns to stop dreaming. It is a sign of desperation and an indicator of a nation in a coma. We cant even voice our disapproval when our areas are bombed and here people are pretending to rule others or act as if they are not dictated to. Well I am sorry to burst everyone`s bubble, but for the past 30 years for sure and many before that, we have been dictated by others. We have zero policy and no representation. Look Khushaal, you yourself post articles by the most anti-Afghan people (i.e. ahmed qureshi), now you want to tell yourself we should rule others? Peera, we have zero policy makers, zero leverage. We are best a nuisance and at worse a backyard for others to play in. From 1870s till 1919, Afghanistan had no right over foreign policy as it was dictated by others. From 1947 and onwards our masheraan are insulted in Pakistan media, intelligentsia. People who are cheered on as muhibe watans insult our masheraan to our face...do you know what the reply of your great Afghan(Pashtun) people is? Mostly ignorance or they enjoin in bashing them.

In terms of the original post, well Lewanaye wrora this is a loaded question. When it came to Pashtun interests, many tribes happily served under non-Pashtuns. Many Pashtuns were a big of the ranks of Ghaznavi, Mughals, Nadir Afshar, etc. This was either motivated mostly by money and adventurism and to an extent religious zeal. I guess a combination of such factors, so I doubt we can say that we haven`t under someone else`s rule or kingdom. Look at ancient times, we were under Sassanids, Achaeamenid, etc.
