How come a lot of Pashtun sub tribes like Musakheel (which is my tribe) and isa khel have been named after Islamic prophets like Moses and isa (Jesus)?
Does anyone know of the kakkar tribe? I heard their a punjabi clan but the word kakar is of Pashtun origin. Not to be confused with the kakar who are a Pashtun tribe.

I think tribes were named after prominent tribal elders.
Pashtanajana, haveyou ever wondered what momand means. What is is derived from? I'd like to know.
Some kaums are known for name of area or famous ancestor. Momands, i dont know. Even the two areas dont explain the original meaning as in the momand agency in pk and momand darra in ningarhar.
I'm not sure what Mohmands/Momand means. However, on wikipedia (not sure if it's a trusted source or not) I came upon this:
The great Sanskrit grammarian and historian Pāṇini, mentioned the names of tribes such as the Aprits (identified with the modern Afridis) and the Madhumants (identified with the modern Mohmand) who inhabited the northwestern areas, in his Ashtadhyayi in the 5th century BC
I find that quite interesting. Perhaps it can give us a clue or hint as to what our tribe name means? And as to famous ancestors, I haven't heard of any either. Though, I know that Rahman Baba was a Momand and he lived from roughly the years 1650–1715, so it's clear that Momand/Mohmand is a fairly old tribe.
this doesn't explain the meaning but thought it might interest you, pashtanajan. MOMANDAN
Thanks faye for the link. However, judging from how its written and the lack of sources on it, it isn't very reliable. Nonetheless, thanks for taking the time to find something interesting concerning my tribe, !

I moderated a defamatory thread sometime ago where one PFer was insulting kakkars.
Kakars are pashtun found in, zabul khas, and generally from loya kandahar, but now widespread. Then there are kakar hindus from hindustan, unrelated as they have an elaborate tracing system 'gotra' that totally delineates them from muslims and pashtun.
The wikipedia entry on kakar double checks with most points with my colleague who is a hindu kakar by claim and family name.
