Mystique, Nas is naswar. Its tobacco laced with lime and and sometimes other potent ingredients. It is pinched or rolled into a ball and placed between gum and cheek. then you wait for the rush.
It is carried in an ornate tin, decorated with a mirror ( to keep the pashtun looking immaculately cool) and sometimes the tin is embedded with coloured stones that make the tin look beautiful.

When the nico effect wears off, the nas is ejected, unfortunately by many on a wall, the floor of a room, public office, bus, etc.
i saw clint eastwood's character eject his nas on a dog's head! (Film: The Outlaw Josey Wales).

Its effect is similar to dokha (tobacco smoked in a midwakh pipe in the Gulf) rush.

the best is..when its spat out of a fast moving car..and someone is walking on side of the road..

    smh.

Ah yes, I've heard about the infamous naswar...That video posted by Jamaludeen was...Horrifying...
Is it used by Pashtuns both in Pakistan and Afghanistan? My uncles use something similar to it. One of them brought the thingything here to Europe. They called it gutka and chew on it until it turns to liquid in their mouth and then he spewed it all over the road. Thank goodness no one saw. I was purely embarresed.

is it customary for Pashtun men to be walking so fast and far ahead while in public with a female family member?? What is the point??
Look behind you, do you see me anywhere?? Do you!?

muska that is because the passenger seat is for the wife of the man driving. every afghan knows that.
but really..i got lost in canada downtown so many times. and i am a pretty fast walker too.
