  • Do you guys celebrate Noruz?

Yeah random thread i know, but just wondering how many pashtuns on here actually celebrate it? My family does but i personally don't since it is a part of Persian culture and not afghan culture.

I recall that in Kandahar city they do.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

And for everyone in doubt, here's proof that this so called "Afghanistan2010" is full of nonsense, and proves himself to be "pradai" once agan.

Tuesday (20th March 2012) was marked as the 1st day of new Solar year in each and every corner of Afghanistan. Thousands gathered in specified locations and attended the Janda Bala (flag-hoisting) ceremonies.
According to the reports from Zabul province
, during the Janda Bala ceremony the Zabul Governor Muhammad Ashraf Nasiri addressed the participants and wished a successful and prosperous year for the people of Afghanistan.

He said the Zabul Municipality and Agriculture Department are currently busy planting saplings. In the meantime he urged the citizens to take part in planting trees and cooperate with the government in expanding the educational and developmental sectors.

Similarly in Kandahar, the Nowruz celebrations began with hoisting of Shah-Maqsood-Tomb’s flag. Meanwhile the Ghazni province also celebrated the Nowruz celebrations with raising the flag of the Shah Awlia Shrine. Thousands of people participated in these ceremonies and prayed for a peaceful and stable year in Afghanistan during 1391.

I celebrate nawruz, I love celebrating it, I couldn't care less if it is a persian holiday or turkish holiday. I like what nawruz is about, it's a beautiful custom, plus I love badaam and charmaghz with wuchey mewey , yummy, I eat so much I get a tummy ache.

In spite of what abasin mentioned regarding this concept being primarily coined by foreign anthropologists, I understand what you're saying even though it's strange to describe yourself as such. So we've established that "you tribal people" do not celebrate Nowruz, but what about Newai Khwazun? Certainly the people you describe as "tribal" celebrate this new year, especially in Loya Paktia. Are you sure it isn't just Wahabbi/Salafi/particular Deobandis that deny celebrating it on the grounds that it's bidah? It's possible that you have the latter confused with the former. Random adherents to a culturally imperialistic Saudi cult should not be confused with "tribal" Pashtuns.

                          look burros,

it is not celebrated as such as it is done and recalled as nowruz.
I don't want to sound nationalist but you don't know what Paktya is,i just want to quote here U.S Military leaders
Haqqani group is one of the fiercest and powerful fighting group carrying out brazen attacks across Afghanistan
Now imagine these socalled haqqani group are only a handful men, imagine around 700 000 fighting men from paktya, khost and paktika province.

I doubt a day could any world power could fight us with the help of Allah.
