I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with it but as it happen usually young girls are married off to tharki bhuddas. If age difference is not much and both parties are serious then it doesn't matter IMHO. But afghanis sell daughters to complete strangers who are most of the times not likely to take good care of her, especially old men.

I think it uterly wrong practise that got totaly out of hand. I know that my parents generations also had this, but it was in no way as extreme as now. And most families did not even aske for all the money they agreed on, sometimes only half was given. And most of the time the money that was recived by the parents were used to buy gifts for the bride. And some did not even aske for it. Now its even an insult to not ask for money. Women became a total product that are sold and bought.

Everything is going the extreme way in Afghanistan. The word moderation seems to be totaly forgoten by the people. So I advice just to ban it all toghether, becuase this is hard to regulate and at the end the bride is the one who will suffer the most.

Thats not only an Afghan problem, more like a poor peoples problem, becuase pakis do it all the time too. Young girls who are given to old rich men is also quite common in punjab.
