I didn't know which section to put this in. I just wanted to ask if anyone has come across someone that says their "pataan" when really they're not! I have! A number of times. First time I told this guy that I was afghan and he said "Omg are you pataan, i thought you were arab! I'm pataan too." I replied, "omg really I thought you were paki. So do you speak pushtu?" He answered, "no my parents never taught it me, i speak urdu." I was like HUH?! I told my pushtun friend and she said "yeh he told me he was pataan too. what do you mean he speaks urdu?!"
A few months after she bumps into a pakistani guy that knows him and used to hang around with him a lot and asks if that guy is pataan. The person replied, "what?! no! he's even more paki than me!"
My question is WHY LIE?! This has happened with a few people and they always use the word pataan! I hate that word. Then when we ask them if they speak urdu they say no and we're like, oh it's another wannabee.
Has anyone been approached by these pushtun wanabees? They're defo not pushtun.
