  • Define A True Pukhtun

Well since you have one for the girls- why not give some recognition to the guys also?

I read somewhere that pushto is one of the manliest languages on earth. So does that make the men the manliest men?

Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Khushal Khan Khattak and Ahmed Shah Durrani, while, in some cases, poles apart from one another in terms of their personalities, can all be considered as representations of true Pashtuns. Here are some words that come to mind whilst describing these personalities:

Bachaa Khan: Humble, religious, peaceful, towering persona, revered, saintly, brave, gentle, simple, beneficent, nationalistic, idealistic, patient, composed...

Khushal Khan: Proud, boastful, rugged, arrogant, unrestrained, brave, warlike, warrior, vindictive, ruthless, pure nationalist, idealist, uninhibited...

Ahmed Shah: Proud, sophisticated, refined, diplomatic, genius, brave, warrior, commander, nationalistic, pragmatic, majestic/royal/kingly....

So it's difficult to stereotype a sur pushtun or a pokh pashtun given how these forefathers of ours were so different from one another. Perhaps it can be argued that at the very core, they held similar beliefs or stood on similar foundations and that would actually be pretty valid. However, at different levels, they're still quite unlike each other.

My point is that there's no such thing as a "true Pashtun". Some might argue about outward appearances (he should look like this, behave like that, talk like this, etc) but those things are confined to the realm of aesthetics, which ought to be secondary considerations in any case.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

True Pashtuns certainly do have certain characteristics, but we can safely say a true Pashtun is not most of you lot, with your Beavis and Butthead mixture of East & West.

Many of you lack vital components of the true Pashtuns. It could just be mixing along maternal lines, fake Pashtun name taking, migration that have caused the influx of such personalities. Though I would say true Pashtuns do exist, but are very rare.

I find it funny how we have 3 page worth of discussion on pakhtana thread, and next to nothing here.

PF ladies don't have any expectation of pashtoon men, and how they should be?

Well, according to the arguments in that thread, no matter our efforts, men won't live up to a woman's expectations, tsenga?

no, more like most pashtoon women don't even expect anything more than what they get ... hence, no need for men to improve.

Maybe for some. Not for all. You see, it depends on the woman. I have expectations and if I am keen on them, then, unfortunately for your argument, that too depends on my behaviour. If they come with the package, all the merrier but from what I know, men can change, and women are best at doing that.

that is exactly what I was thinking. I too have expectations as to how I THINK a pushtun man should be and the characteristics he should have. It just depends on the woman. Everybody is different and has a different mindset.

This is of course coming from someone who claims Indian-prakrit speakers were ancient Pashtuns. heh

Sgulab, all jokes aside; how do you idealize a Pashtoon male; perhaps that is a good start at arriving at a definition.

I do agree with you; there should be expectations and ideals of manhood and womanhood.

Listen, I did not mean to make a big argument here. I was just wondering. You can never really define anyone because everyone is different in every situation. I am not trying to push "some weird definition" upon anyone- I am just trying to have a conversation.
