  • Salam/Hi/Hello I am your Neighbor, Can I borrow?

A cup of sugar?... or a couple of eggs... we just ran out of it and there is no one to bring it... i would appreciate the help...

how many of you have done this?

back in Afghanistan its one of the most common thing about Afghans...

do u still do it? ... do you know of someone that does it?...

last night i was cooking... suddenly i noticed i don't have enough tomatoes... and Angaar wasn't home, so i was debating whether i should ask this Indian neighbor of ours for some tomatoes... i didn't. but i have done this before.

if you make itto mydoorstep, i will never send you awayempty handed unless i don't have what you ask for.
would i do it myself?? no because
-safeway(grocery store) is across the street from where i live
-i am too lazy to bother myself..i will cook something else instead
      -i have drivers at home
-we are a large family so one or two tomatoes wont cut the deal for us and there is no decency in asking thy neighbor for half a kg of tomatoes
-i live in a white neighborhood

there has been this one incident where i wish i had said no the first time...
we are the landlord of the house across the street from where we live. we rented it to two arab guys a while ago. it started with two onions and ended up with various types of vegetables and cooking oil towards the end.
5 times a week these guys who were young and healthy would be knocking on the door and asking for something. it wasn't the matter of giving them an onion as much as feeling uncomfortable every time i heard someone knock on the door.

i guess once in a while it's okay if you live next door to people from middle east. as long as you return what you borrowed asap and don't become an obnoxious pain in the hind...

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

Back home, all the time. The one thing that everyone knocks your door for is eggs, there seem to be a shortage of that. Here, we did it a few times, in the early days. But then, our paranoid uncle told us about people suing people, and said DUUNT EBBAAAR DDDUU DAAT UU GET SUUUU FOORR MONEEYY!! UR FATHER GO JAIL! U GO JAIL!

I'm not even kidding. So we stopped :- (

Because we were fobs, and he was trying to impress us with his English.

Not really. I would rather run out to the grocery and buy what we need.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I live in that typical all white suburbs....so borrowing from your next door neighbor is normal. But we never do it. Someone once in a while will come and ask to borrow something, and yes, we give it to them. They come for a lawn mower on the weekend, eggs, butter......one time a lady came to ask for a roll of toilet paper but mehhh maybe she really needed it. Since we live outside of the city, it takes a while to go to the nearest market.

                  ^ admin: I agree 100%

We would never do that, burrow stuff like that from neighbors.

well it is common here to borrow thing from the neighbours.... during cooking time when a lady finds that there aren't enough eggs/tomatoes/onions etc to fullfil the cooking requirements she would send her children to neighbours to borrow that stuff......but fortunately our neighbours are our close relatives here........still my father don't like to borrow things like that from others......
