  • Things you notice, about Pukhtoons of across

So what are some of the things you notice, about fellow Pukhtoons from across i.e. if you are from Afghanistan, what do you notice about Pukhtoons from Pakistan, and if you are from Pakistan, what do you notice about Pukhtoons from Afghanistan?

Please, no politics, smears, insults etc.

Besides the good food, and sense of community that I noticed about Pukhtoons from Afghanistan, I also notice a snobby sense of superiority i.e. they are the real deal, and consider the Pukhtoons of KP as desi maal. :- (

I havn't really met pashtoons from other places in KP other than from peshawar... so i can't really speak for all pashtoons in kp.

    peshawar pashtoons:

    1. speak a lot of english words in their pashto...
    2. use urdu words to replace many many pashto words... like "lmanzal" which means celebrat is replaced with "manaana"...
    3. the ones that i met cooked food completely panjabi style, with lots of masala and lots of chillies hehe... and they usually made food that were eaten by pakistanis, like gobi gosht, biryani, alo keema, samoosa, chaat... pashtoons in Afghanistan don't use masala at all... and i didn't see them cooking shorwa at all haha
    4. their wedding was mostly pakistani style, with yellow clothes on their mahendi and red sharara type clothes on weding night...

but well those were from peshawar so i can't say i know much about other PK

the same can be said about pashtoons in kabul... but i guess none of them represent pashtoons...

Iv noticed that many iv come accross from Afghanistan (some that have never even been there in their life) act like they are some sort of superior human race, very arrogant and rude. not very Islamic (in London anyway)..iv noticed that pashtuns from Afghanistan bond with persian people well. I used to shaufer drive cars to weddings as a part time job whilst i was on summer holidays from University and nearly every Afghan wedding i went to which was alot was very western with the women showing alot of flesh wearing cinderella ball dresses and the men in tuxedo's/suits and completly mixed. even when i used to speak to some men i could smell alcohol.

That might have offended some of you but im telling the truth from my own observation and experiences.

Truth should not offend anyone. But what you have said I also have noticed. Most of the type that you speak of are people that have been kabulized, they follow kabuli culture and believe that western way of life is superior and if a woman wears hijab or a man wears lungai, they are backwards, uneducated, barbaric and are from the mountains. I know some kabuli families that feel ashamed because one of their kids is handicapped and have heard stories that sometimes in kabul, they kill them as infants if the infant is handicapped because their peers laugh at them.

What I have noticed is that the pashtuns of peshawar are similar to panjabi's and the pashtuns of Kabul have adopted western or persian culture. My kaliwol that have been to both cities regard the pashtuns of both cities as "narom" or "soft."
But the Pashtuns in small towns in Pukhtunkwa are very similar to the Pashtuns of smalltown Afghanistan.
I don't mean to offend any Kandahari's in here but I have noticed that the Kandaharis I've met act like they are superior then the rest of us.

first of all both side are in the same boat.
The pashto in peshwarcity is influence by urdu and english but you can not say this for the whole of pakhtunkhwa.I agree that the pashtu in pashtunkhwa is under the influence of urdu and english. But i disagree that the pashtun of pashtunkhwa similar to punjabis. The pashtun in pashtunkhwa are very much proud of their pashtun origin and way of life.Even the qazalbash, khinki, chetrali and kohistanis in peshawar speak fluent pashtu. Many qazalbash speak only pashtu. To live in pashtunkhwa pashtu is must but not in afghanistan. My experaince with afghan-pashtun is that
The afghan-pashtuns are very much influence by persain language.irtebat,bale,muwafeq,tashakor,hala/tror in pashtu, hamkari, masolyat and many persain words used by afghan-pashtuns.
Also the afghan-pashtuns are more persainised.Their food, culture and language is very much influence by persains. They are more freindly with iranains but not with their fellow pashtuns of pashtunkhwa.
The educated pashtun male often marry with parsiwan women and the children do,nt even know a word of pashtu. They do,nt feel pride in pashtun dress code and like westren clothes
The kaliwal pashtuns of afghanistan in the eastren and southren afghanistan are similar to the kaliwal pashtuns of pashtunkhwa.
Another thing is in the presence of one parsiwan all pashtun start in farsi.
Even the so called nationalists speak dari at home.
I found the Gelzais pashtuns are more pashtunists and proud compare to duranis and others.
Sorry if anyone offended but this my experaince.

yes im offended by your lack of knowledge about pukhtane in Afghanistan.
you have taken an extreme case and painted all pukhtane with it.
i dont wan to get into details unless you want me to.

really? Ironic, because i am half kandahari too but i have hardly seen a kandahari family back home using, chaat masala or biryani masala, or chicken tikka masala...

what Afghans use in their food is limited to the following four items (some exceptions apply):

                    Salt
                    black pepper
                    green fresh chillies

^lol oh i see... no i meant the indian masala... there are like literally TONS of them out there... and i have seen pashtun from peshawar usually cook with those masalas and cook food that is not so common in Afghanistan..

like Achaar gosht... i mean literally no Afghan (other than those who have travelled to either India or Pakistan) has heard of achaar gosht, let alone eat it.

But you have to admit, it tastes good, achaar gosht...mmmmm... My mouth is all watery now.

Yes I agree Afghans don't use that much spices, in fact it is barely noticeable. Afghan food tends to be more like Central Asian/Mediterranean while on the KP side its very spicy. The food is also very healthy.

Afghans also make the meanest palao, unbeatable. Me and my brother, not big on okra, but once we visited this Kaka of ours, man, the way they made okra, it was amazing. I didn't know it can taste like that. Then there is Batingar (Badinjan)...the only thing we know to make out of it is "bartaa", which is spicy, and batingar is all mashed up. But the way Afghans make it is in large slices, not spicy, and very rich in flavor. Another thing I notice is not much use of onions, but plenty of tomatoes.

Food like tika masala, tanori chicken, lam, kabab, naan etc. all came out of Muslims interaction with the cuisine of South Asia. People, particularly in India, are not big on meats. Some of the best lam, kabab, and other masala daar food in Karachi is owned by Afghans.

                            Now I'm hungry.

Things I notice about Pashtuns are: very hospitable, loyal, proud of their culture, respectful to elders, valiant, humble.
