The Alif mad should not be ommitted at all because Pashto didn't come out of Urdu but rather Urdu is influenced by pashto, arabic, Farsi/Dari... we shouldn't be changing our way of writing because Urdu is borrowing it from us...

There are many many words that use "alif mud"... and when pashtoons pronounce that word they actually pronounce it as "AAA"

the word "aas" (horse) is pronounced exactly with "alif mad" with a longer "a" sound.
In pakhtunkhwa it is "ass" with a shorter "a" sound.....don't know how pashtuns of afghanistan pronounce it.....We only use "Alif mud" for words that have come out of urdu like "Aayenda" meaning "next time" or "Aab o hawa"(climate) infact in pakhtunkhwa we have no word that starts with a longer sound of "a" i.e Aaa.

                thanks,
                Yousafzai
