I don't know about you guys but for me, I personally want my Kids to learn both Pashtu and Dari, because for me Dari has historical connection as well as Afghan's Early Islamic pride and Fame from 800-1250 AD a period of 450 years of pride where our forefathers made so much commitments and contribution into making Dari a language that it was/IS spoken by different nations/Races such as Early Oghuz Seljuk Empire (The forgathers of Tajiks and Uzbeks), Usmanis the forefathers of Roman Turkics or Rumis (ie Ottaman of Modern Turkey), Late Sassanians, Northern Indians (Forefathers of modern Hindu-Muslims of Pakistan), Parthians (The forefathers of Modern Persians and Khorasanis), and most importantly the Pakhtrians/Sakas the forefathers of modern Afghans, the Ilkhanates (Forefathers of Hazaras/Aimaqs/and few other "Turko-Persians"), as well as many other nations too long to mention.

Where as Pashtu in the past 400 years it has saved us from destruction of Dark ages (1250-1600 Turko-Mongolid) era as well as saving us from shame of Shia-Iranian influence (1390-1670) as well as given us our pride in our forgotten languages and made us in believe in blood bond. I am not Nejat parasd as some people assume, but I take pride for what we did against Shias as well us our influence in Turko-Mongolid era, such as during Mughal-e-Hind era as well as Timurid era that has some what saved Hannifah believe as well as given us Afghan opportunities in making history despite we were going through the most Darkest era of Afghan history 1250-1600.

please share your observations. Do you think the Govt will ever treat them both equally?
I personally think yes because the trend has been like this that we have more hate towards a languages once we called "My beloved tongue" I mean from my family prospective. My grandfather never spoken Pashtu with us nor with his sons, however his eldest son who married late doesn't know a word of Pashtu and yet he bought a pashtu dictionary for his teenagers seriously guess what the Teenagers said

"هه بالا بالا چیست کی پدر جان مخوهای کی ما یاد بگریم، برو پدر بگو کی ما زبانی طلبانه اید نداریم "

they think this language belongs to Taliban yet not aware of their own Sulimani root. I mean this is the level that Kids behave when they never knew much about a language so native.

I also see other family members who are heavily involved in making sure their kids speaks Pashtu. I mean one family member of ours is from Kakar and he speaks pashtu like Karzai therefore he has accent and yet tries so hard to teach his kids communicating in Pashtu, or maybe he's doing it in purpose since no-one on our own family speaks as good pashtu as he does.

There are other Afghan Canadian communities trying to open Afghan "Pashtu only" school, there are about dozen registered private classes and they are even trying to making this as "Credit" optional program and its still bending hopefully its approved by Toronto District school board.

I personally too love to speak Pashtu, but unfortunately I am older for that maybe in the future I too may take private classes and speak few words with my daughter. Cause I want her to be proudly say I am Afghan and speak both language, her native Dari as well as secondary Pashtu.

Nick do you think Pashto will ever be stronger than Dari in Afghanistan?
I personally think Pashtu has that strength that Dari doesn't have and I think it will never have since many nations and races speak this language, I mean Pashtu is deep native. Despite we Farsiwans don't speak Pashtu yet its something so inferior to us, and has earned our respect due to its deep root in all of us. I mean a singer never gets famous in afghan community unless he sings in Pashtu. When he sings in Pashtu its always a Hit song, and yet we all do Attan despite Pashtu speakers look at us and sometimes the new generations specially Pashtuns of NWFP gets surprised that we do Attan yet we don't know its words.

Majority of us have respect for Pashtu but not so much as to consider it their own language. I am one example, I speak Dari and I am proud of it, and my Race shell have nothing to do with it. Same as I speak Arabic or English, and I know my Race will be lost into this English world, and what I am mostly scared of their religion being lost. Therefore I try and try harder into developing an English-Muslim community. Mainly Toronto branch of Canadian Muslim Association Where I go every week or two and there we meet, make joint little muslim gathering/Party and there we mix our native culture, food with Canadians and also make poems and write about how Canada is and its people and post and print.

See This above example is exactly what our forefathers did in Afghanistan from 690 AD-1000 AD since then we have a language called Dari/Farsi.

If we have a pure pashtun state whereby all tribes are united and one languaged and one currency is used then our problems in regards to no identity and status will be over.

There will be no capital as every city and province will be given equal opportunities and all tribes we will be judge and treated all equally.

Farsi and Urdu will be demmed in history books only.

          Kind Regards

What is so wrong with it.

People on this forum complain about Urdu imperialising Pushto ignoring the fact that Urdu is just another form of Dari but spoken by Indics lol.

If ones Language and culture is over powered by foreign languages than the people will be doomed for ever.

Pashto by then was not a developed language. Every field, of academics and practices, has its own jargon/language/terminology and because Pashto in those days was not well versed in the required jargon of bureaucracy therefore, it was one of the reasons why the Pashtun/Afghan rulers had to rely on the Dari-speaking educated elites of Kabul and the surrounding areas to run the state bureaucracy.

I agree with you. I think we should create a separate thread for discussing the status of Pashto in Pashtunkhwa.

Kabul province is 65percent Pashtun they speak Dari. What have we done to have this curse Dawezai?
That's what we are discussing here.

Dawezai the University that you lecture in Kabul is Pashto used
The university that I teach at has more than 8,000 students, almost 65% of whom are Pashtuns. The teaching faculty is 98% Pashtuns. The medium of instruction at the university is English but we use Pashto as well which is almost equally understood by the Pashtun as well as Dari-speaking students.

We are not suggesting that it's a simple phenomenon either. However, if the Pashtuns themselves are responsible for the fall of Pashto then we don't need to blame it on others and suggest escapist solutions.

Yousafzai Saib, would you mind elaborating the "outsiders" in the context of Afghanistan, please?

But Pashto a language native to Afghanistan they refuse to learn? We learned Dari because we are hospitable they should know we being the dominant ethnic group if we wanted with force every body would be speaking Pashto.

The Pashtuns in Afghanistan, are practically fighting a war on belhalf of Pakistan. They are in fact, agents of Pakistan. To fulfill Pakistani ambitions, they even kill scores of their innocent countrymen. What do you think?? What should the rest of the country do? Its a fact, the real native of Afghanistan are Farsiwaan, read history, Pashton were/are nomads that recently come down to cities...Kandhar, Jalaabad, Gardiz, Asadabad were all Farsi speakers..but this changed when Pashton come down and settle in these area.
