Iam sure Pashtuns were very nice to the Hazarawals, remmeber, it was the Hazarawals who caused all that problems on behalf of Punjab.

Hazarawals robbed a bank, looted two gun stores and roamed around the protests with armed weapons. Pashtuns could have done the same but they didnt.

I agree, Disunity does put alot of Pashtuns off.

    Kind Regards

Just over 4 or 5 dead Hazarawals, the whole of Pakistan was greiving over it, but what about the 1000's slaughtered by Pak jets and armed cobra helicopters?

    Where is our protests.

You would not believe but Pashto speakers looked down upon hazarawals even if they belong to tribes of Jadoon, swati, tarin, pani and tanoli. As these tribes have lost pashto so their cousins pashto speakers call them Punjabies on their faces as an insult and rejection, while on the other hand their other cousins punjabies dont treat them like such. Those hazaraywals who tried to associate themselves with pashtuns, were always rejected by us. You can say we are treating our minority like that of punjabis to us. Ofcourse Musilm league has big hand in manipulating and exploiting the situation in Hazara but we where were we to remedy the hurt feelings of hazarawals? Infact their demand of new province is a big slap on our irresponsible faces.

They actually do teach Pashtun history in our schools - Khushal Khan Khattak was a traitor, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan was a Communist infidel traitor, Ahmed Shah Abdali was good when he was killing Hindus but he was eventually a traitor too since he went back to his homeland, proud Pashtuns have always been a threat to Pakistan, etc, etc.

@Jana, I'm not an Afghan national, in case you're mistaken. My ID card says Pakistan. So I cannot account for the successes or failures of the Afghan state. However, instead of saying that yes, as Pashtuns, we should give top priority to the sign (payzengali) of our ancestors, you come up with childish, flimsy and accusatory stories to try to derail us from the real issue. I'm assuming you've been watching too much Capital Talk.

Every red-blooded Pashtun will love his mother tongue and will not try to think about "logical" arguments in that regard. When you love someone or something, all rationality and logic go straight out of the door. Unfortunately, you have an agenda and you, for some reason, cannot deviate from it even when it comes to this issue. You represent the creed that fought against Khushaal Khan baba for the sake of the Mughals.

I am really happy that our worthy friends ponder over the present status of Pashto as a language like its official status, its use as medium of instruction, language of media both print and electronic, and the reasons why a foreigner should learn Pashto.

Pashto is one of the official language of Afghanistan but these days its real staus as an official language in Afghanistan can be better explained by a friend living in Afghanistan specially in Kabul and the South East regions of Afghanistan.

I have been told that Pashto is the medium of instruction in Primary schools in some regions of the Khyber Pashtunkhwah. I know nothing of the status of Pashto in Balochistan and have great curiosity to know that.

I know that in Pakistan , Afghanistan some radio stations and tv channels broadcast and telecast Pashto Programs. Details have to be systematically gathered by those who are expert in the field.

I know a little that Pashto is used as a language of writing and reading and calculating in Pashtun regions in Afghanistan but in Pakistan this trend almost does not exist. Urdu has practically repalced Pashto for reading, writing and arithmetic. Although Pashtuns speak and listen Pashto in Pakistan but they normally dont write and read Pashto. Thus in this case Pashto may become an endangered Lnaguage in Pakistan.

Pashto must be made and effective official language , court language and medium of instruction in Pashtun areas in Afghanistan and Pakistan but How? who will do so ?

In Pakistan the only hope now is ANP government and Bacha khan Trust or Education Foundation. They can can play an importnat role in this regard. But when I saw the websites of the Bacha Khan Trust and Education Foundation, I saw only English and Urdu books, even Pashto curriculum has not been finalized. There are retired Brigadiers, Human rights activitists and few professors but not educationists or Linguists on the Boarad of Directors. I dont know details of this Trust and Foundation still its a hope that it may do something better for making Pashto at least a medium of instruction along with English in few schools under its jurisdiction.

One concrete demand that I put forward here for the ANP government is to make Pashto a compulsory subject in all private and public schools and at least medium of instruction in Primasry schools in all Pashtun areas.

In Afghanistan the official status of Pashto may be made more effective. Pashtuns themselves can play a major role. If 70 million Pashtuns start using Pashto for reading, writing and speaking then who will dare not to give Pashto its due status.

We have to adopt a more mature stance than this manana.

My cousin use to work in a factory in Birmingham, There were this group of Afghans from Kunar, they were Pashtuns and one Dari Zuban, They use to push him about and call him all kinds of bad words, you complain about two guys speaking in Urdu, its only when you get your head kicked in then you realise what it feels like.

You cant assume two guys represent every pashtun just like those guys dont represent every pashtun from Kunar.
