Thanks so much - no wonder I love the sound of Mehrabani ! Truly beautiful concept of merciful - it spreads light to others.

So when do we change over to using Mehrabani here ?!

By the way my interlocutor insisted Mehrabani was Persian - is that true?
Iranian Farsi they say "Merci" - in the French way not the Merciful way -
or Khaili Mamnun or Khaili Muchakiram, etc.

I felt the burden I was carrying all that time since that exchange
drop off my shoulders at this revelation about
    manana - !
it just sounds weak, very NON-Pashtun - Non-Afghan

Yes, i know it is a Farsi word. There are plenty words that are shared amongst Farsi and Pashto.

i remeber i came on this site and i used tashukar to thank admin wror and i felt odd as i never heard amongst our people , the word taskukar but i thought im being professional and truth is kandahrians hardly say thank you that much anyway they usually just give dowa .

manena is a real pashto word.
khairwosey is also pashto(even though khair is arabic)

mehrabani is more persian/arabic i think.

Manana = Pashto for Thank You. Purer and making a very real come back and increasingly used as the standard (especially on the Internet and the electronic media) as the formal way of expressing thanks amongst Pashtoons. This is becoming standard now which is a good thing.

Tashukr = Farsi - some Farsi speakers use Merci which is French
Shukriya = Urdu for Thank You.
Tashukradiram = Turkish (one of my closest friends is a Turk - I always thank him this way).
Shukran = Arabic for Thank You.

Notice the common stem in the Thank Yous above and the uniqueness of the Pashto?

You people forgot about Heela kawam.
In the villages they bless you with khair ossey or kor d wadan. I haven't heard of tashkur being used with pashtuns that often. Mehrabani mostly i found in novels and books while manana used commonly otherwise.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

tashakur is used by kandaharis (being half kandahari, and raised with them i would know this :P)... but it is Dari word.

Manena is the right form of saying thank you.

if you use anything else, like khairwose, or kor de wadan, it is just expression of gratitude which indirectly means thank you, but the person isn't literally saying thank you.

                              1. "Peshawar pashto" is a dialect of Pashto called the Yusufzai dialect.

                              2. No, manana is not commonly used in the Yusufzai dialect. People use mera'bani instead.

                              3. If you decide to say manana to police/military personnel at checkpoints around Peshawar you will treated as a very suspicious person and asked to step out of the car and show ID. [True story]

manan, manana, . . . thanks! like someone said, tashakor is dari (farsi dialect in afghanistan)

                                i think manan is in:
                                paman-e-khuda or khuda-e-paman
