yes you are right but that is not thank you
that is kind of doing a dua if someone did something for you.
lets say you ask for water someone gives it to you you say khairwosey which means be safe or something.
manena is not as widely used which means thank you

khairwosey is common manena not so much.
we from east afg dont thank people that much and even saying manena seems kind of strange.manena is probably more urban.

I'm glad someone brought this up !
I have been wondering ever since I got here about this.
I remember hearing major Mujahideen Commanders - Pashtun - say Dera Mehrabani in my presence. That's almost engraved in my mind.
Therefore, I was taken aback when I asked by PM to a PF member.
She dismissed that possibility with a curt "Oh no that's wrong; it's only manana! Case closed!"
I didn't dare raise the question again...
I never once heard manana, either, in KP or Eastern Afghanistan.
But I may not have known to look for it...
This is a relief to get this finally straightened out , thank you everyone!
PS - I still can't bring myself to use "manana".
Anyone mind if I say the Mehrabani one ?

but Pukhtane dont use this word to thank someone
they rather go a little bit further and say things such as Mehrabani -which means mercifulness it means you are very merciful.they also say khairwosey which means peace be you.
women also say something such as khwaramashey which means ,skinny dont become which means hope you dont get poor.
so manena is used as to say the word thanks and when you say thank you it is taso na manena or than you very much taso na dera manena.
in afghanistan people use different words in different areas
