  • Pashto for beginners ?

I want to give learning pashto a serious try and I was going through the threads in the language section but i couldn't find anything that is at a really beginner level. The audio tutorials are just conversations so its hard to pick up stuff from them, the other threads on pashto all focus on different words and their meanings (unless i missed something ?) but for non-pashto speakers i believe the greatest hindrance is getting the pronunciation right or atleast for me it is.

    So good resources anyone ?

                Talal,

Take a brief look at our Pashto forum. We have a thread strictly devoted to Pashto resources. I believe it was started by our very own Darweshkhel. Aside from that, if you go through every thread in the Pashto section, you will be a pro very soon. If you want, you can use this thread to practice with us. I have no problem in helping you learn your language. :-)

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

yeah i will probably be spamming here, first i wanna know whats a good starting point..i guess first it would have to be alphabets and their pronunciation and how they combine to form words and then their pronunciation

interesting . . . dont you have ashada instead of kha in kandahar pashto?
I was talking to my friend from baghlan, and we started comparing dialects, the sheen/kheen etc
his conclusion was that kheen is standard pashto, quoting karzai using kheen dialect when addressing public. he confirmed the standard pashto by listening to afghan cell net voice messages.
i am still unclear; my weak assumption was that kandahar dialect held high position, plus a lot of PFers from KP assert their kheen dialect as proper.
what is the general opinion in kandahar, kakargirl?
