Pa gul dai wowishtum zarai zarai dai kruma yara
Pa lar kai nast yema khpal zan ra tolawuma yara

aw de urdu yow sher

zakhmi hoyey jab hont tu mehsoos ye huwa
chooma tha mey ney phool ko deewangi ke sath

baura kho we asiq da yaw lahzi, nan da husain talab gar wi saba nawi

gora khald pathang tha, chi da yar pa meena ki sathee sho

O pen and ink, for once obey the heart.
It soars beyond infatuation, high
and higher still, while you fall low with ‘l.’
You loop, you crawl, you rise, and fall, and loop
again; and only ‘love’ do these movements
put forth. But that which flows like blood in veins
cannot between blue lines be held constrained.
Its wings, the heart, beat hard and harder ‘til
its hue the heavens take at dawn and dusk.
So, pen and ink, turn red in shame below,
while I and Layla fly away with Love.
