these are different to our apricots here. longer and less orange in colour. one of my favourite fruits when home grown. never any good from shops.

Interesting --- didn't know about that---is that commercially available? And what is it good for?

because the hunza people generally attained longevity, their use of the apricot kernal oil managed to become a fad in the 60's or 70's. nutritionists who went to hunza then wrote about the people and what they thought are the reasons for their good health into old age, made the use of the oil, public knowledge.
the book i read was by a canadian man who said the hunza people only made enough oil to last a couple of days, at a time and oil goes off quickly. cold pressed oils being better as no chemicals are in the production and the oil should be kept in cool dark place.
there is a lot of info on the net about the apricot kernel oil. it is also used for skincare.

just google it. it is still popular from what i can gather as there are a lot of sites mentioning it. it was expensive to buy as it was a cold pressed oil and one bought it from the health food shops. i used it years ago but haven't noticed it recently as i only use good quality olive oil.
apricot oil is good on salads too, if you like the taste.

I have too noticed lack of taste in fruit sold in supermarkets. picked before ripe, therefore fruit has no chance to produce the sweetness and flavour achieved when left on tree for longer time.

When I was back home recently I passed through Aibek, in Samangan, and bought some pears, these pairs were the sweetest pairs I had tasted. Picked late and properly ripe.

^ i think even in the emirates most fruits are genetically modified, that's why a lot of them taste like plastic. in countries like afghanistan/northern pakistan areas, I think most of the fruits are still natural/organic

the annoying thing is, that the fruits in the supermarket look good, and ones memory of good quality fruit tastes, inspires one but the fruits never come up to the memory. very disappointing
