Recently, I have been reading and thinking a lot about terraforming. Terraforming is the process by which planets are artificially made to resemble Earth, and have like conditions, so that once it is completed, people can live as if they were living on Earth.
It seems like a far-fetched idea but organizations like NASA are really enthusiastic about it. The two planets they are primarily looking at terraforming are Mars and Venus. They say that Mars has a substantial amount of water but it is under the surface so if they can alter the environment by "injecting" the same gasses into it that are present on Earth, the climate will heat up and the water will rise to the surface.
The injecting part might seem difficult but with all the biochemical technology they have, it just might be possible. I was also thinking about how many centuries it took man kind to learn to utilize the element present of Earth. For example, things like metal work were established over such a long period of time. What if the other planets don't have the same amounts of these useful elements on them, what will people do then?
I'd like to know other people's views on this topic. There's so much to read about it on Wikipedia, and there are artist's conceptions of what the planets will look like at different stages of their terraforming. Finally, I don't mind radical ideas at all, just share them.
