When a woman chooses a man she's usually thinking about the child's future too, to include what genes he might inherit. She's the one to carry, give birth and take care of the kids after all.

A family might marry off (or sell) a girl to enrich themselves or just to be rid of economic deadweight, especially if they already have a son.

Are you referring to the abortion phenomena of females in India and China?

Evolutionary speaking, the survival(population growth) of the human species and most other species is directly related to the female. This leads to males accumulating females so the survival of their genes(Y chromosome) would increase. In almost all societies the man that is looked up to is the one who can accumulate more females be it through physical attractiveness or through wealth and power, the latter being the leverage which is why a strong male(the stronger fo the two sexes) is looked at being the greatest asset to the survival of the family but at the same time most males would put their lives on the line for females because it is the female that is essential although Matriarchy exists no where.


But your comment about certain societies in the world looking at females
as economic deadweight maybe true in certain aspects depending on the environment but it is natural for the vast majority of parents to love their offspring whether female or male and letting go of them would cause heartache and feeling of loss therefore the majority of parents that give their daughters off for marriage do so to the best candadate that could take care of their daughter best usually the one with the best financial qualities which again points to eurgenics.
Your claims of parents actually spending the time and energy to raise a daughter and then sell them years later to releif burden is not logical when it comes to the equation of asset, liabiality and profit and Im talking about it generally and not a case here and there. Going further industrial societies have evolved to the point of regarding all offspring male and female as liability.

By your logic, they should be happy when they are married off and out of the house then. Usually the brides family cry during the wedding and it is the grooms family that rejoice and fire guns int he air. If its about the money, then the girls family should be celebrating instead of mourning. In pashtun culture, the wedding day of their daughter is almost like a mourning as though a death in the family had occurred.
