All societies where women are allowed to choose the man who will father their children (not always the husband) practice a form of eugenics.

The parents choosing or approving the spouse for their child is also a form of eurgenics, is it not.

When a woman chooses a man she's usually thinking about the child's future too, to include what genes he might inherit. She's the one to carry, give birth and take care of the kids after all.

A family might marry off (or sell) a girl to enrich themselves or just to be rid of economic deadweight, especially if they already have a son.

Is that what happened in your family?

Not that I know of. But it is common in China, India for sure. Probably in Africa too but I don't know what countries or what tribes exactly.

They are also sad on their wedding day. The reason they are sad is because one day they have to leave the home. It also has to do with the fact that the life of a female is much harder and more grim than that of a male.

Excatly, maybe 20 years ago a girl was a burden in Afghanistan, but today there is no difference between the birth of a male and femake, except for shooting in the air.

Really?? Is that what they tell you, now from my own expirience the peopel who got girls were sad, Afghans are always hooping for a boy, becuase more boys means more men that will work, so more money, more girls mean more women who will stay at home and once they grown up they are out of the house and can't contribute to the family, thats way they are sad......

                          Its all about the money

By your logic, they should be happy when they are married off and out of the house then. Usually the brides family cry during the wedding and it is the grooms family that rejoice and fire guns int he air. If its about the money, then the girls family should be celebrating instead of mourning. In pashtun culture, the wedding day of their daughter is almost like a mourning as though a death in the family had occurred.
