evolutionarily humans evolved in the same ecological dynamics as other animals and thus our morality is a product of it, it can be useful to compare the homolagaeity of our patterns of behavior or even morality. Also consider that dogs have been domesticated and thus in their evolution absorbed idealized human moral traits by selective breeding.
