My mother did her residency there. We looked online, some of her instructors/doctors she worked with are still there. I was even born at the hospital

Laila, I forgot. In Peshawar, we also have Khyber College of Dentistry (KSD) ... opposite the KMC besides the Psychology Dept. It is part of KMU (Khyber Medical University). Here is a nice video about KSD. Here is a nice video about it.

There are other universities e.g., City University, CECOS, FAST-NU etc. but I don't know about their standard except for FAST, NU which is very good. But among private medical colleges, I think Rahman Medical College would be the best probably as good as KMC or Ayub Medical College. It is the famous Rahman Medical Center upgraded to medical college. It may beat KMC in the end. Somebody was telling me, many good profs have joined Rahman Medical College now.

Gandhara is good as well. They have an excellent Dental Hospital (which is also a teaching hospital) with the name "Shad Baigam" hospital.

There is Kabir Medical College as well...don't know what is its relationship with Gandhara University. Also don''t know about Peshawar Medical College.

Somebody told me, Bacha Khan Medical college is becoming very competative amd may overtake Ayub in ranking.

I know they take a good amount of International Students.

Yes, you are right, they do have quota's for Afghan students; however, that does not make it easy. In fact, they have certain amount of seats for Afghan students, making it very competitive.

A cousin of mine applied over and over as an Afghan student. After 3 years, he gave up because he never got in.

City university of Science & Information Technology, Peshawar is one of the first private-sector universities, chartered by the Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). It is an extension of Peshawar Model Educational Institutes (PMEI), founded in 1979 with an aim to impart quality education at an affordable cost. Initially, only a primary school was established, comprising of just one moderate campus with 300 students. But, in the course of time, the continuous efforts of our highly qualified faculty and dedicated management paid off and resulted in the establishment of eight separate school campuses, one degree college campus for boys and one degree college campus for girls, with a combined strength of over 16,000 students.

We should think one day about doing a PF merit based collective scholarship for 1 student on the KP side and 1 on the Afghan side. The awardees should know of eachother and this may help also build bonds across the border. The history of the namesakes on the award could be given to awardees as well to educate them about their ethnic heroes. The individual should derive from the village and have an actual financial need. The scholarship could be called the Ahmad Shah Abdali-Sher Shah Suri Scholar Award. It should fund those going for an engineering or medical degree back home and would allow said individuals to build links to those of us here in the West. We could have a committee perhaps headed by Admin Khan, or others that have the credentials, to screens applications and maintains tight control over the monetary funds that would be based off collective contributions here. We would try to not have PF family or governmental/local malik involved members apply to avoid nepotism and to sustain a meritocracy. I dont know maybe a paypal account or something would allow for contributions to be collected. We could perhaps get an estimate of costs (room, bording, tuition, etc) for prominent medical or engineering schools in Afghanistan/Pakistan and see what the associated costs would amount to across 4-5 years. Members could potentially help dessiminate information back in their respective villages. A major goal would be to avoid paying for the kalaay mashar's son based on forged documents etc. Perhaps we could have a fact finding group ensure who we give it to is truly in need and that submitted documents are authentic. The individual should have scored high on standadized competitive tests. I have no idea what testing is done in Pakistan or Afghanistan, so others would have to guide us.

In the coming year after July, I can probably moonlight some more and perhaps help out with contributions... Will have to evaluate finances and such, but maybe the other doctors on here can also moonlight collectively and help with this. Goal would be to help at the rural level. We would keep a tight watch on the individuals academic performance and possibly help out with a transition for training here in the US for a period of time by giving advice, supplies for standardized testing. We would have to evaluate the candidates stability etc. and make sure that they are devoted to following through on this through thick and thin. This would mean that they cannot do the typical Pashtun thing where they leave school to work an odd job and pay for family finances back in the kalaay. We would probably maintain links with someone at the respective schools to ensure attendance and what not.
