yeah i have been on a statin for years now, all about that damage control. There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

do you take epipen our lantus solostar for injection?
epipen just went generic (epheniphedrin) this week, so it is 40 dollars cheaper.

My mother suffered numbness below thumb, hands 'falling asleep' and had it looked at over 15 years without success, from doctors in suadi arabia, to a harley street consultant, and it was doctor javed khatak at a pakistani CMH who diagnosed it as carpel tunnel syndrome, performed the surgery on both wrists, she has never looked back!
My brother suffered stomach pains and was given all sorts of antacids, endoscopies, diagnosed with some pyloric bacteria, sensitivity to gluten, celiac(sp?) disease for 10 years, no success, till six months ago an Iranian doctor recommended a specialist who said it was compactment, and that is currently being treated with success and he feels so relieved.
I guess academic or professionals with the skill set to logically reach a conclusion are far and few in between, in any profession.

Damn,15 years to diagnose only carpal tunnel syndromeOriginally posted by torkham View PostMy mother suffered numbness below thumb, hands 'falling asleep' and had it looked at over 15 years without success, from doctors in suadi arabia, to a harley street consultant, and it was doctor javed khatak at a pakistani CMH who diagnosed it as carpel tunnel syndrome, performed the surgery on both wrists, she has never looked back!

Believe me i would have figured it out upon just mentioning the symptoms let alone diagnosing them despite that i have just recently only passed the First prof.

One can understand your point, Barakzai. Every body needs job-security and continuity. My point was, the societies back home need more engineering and science graduates. That is what drives most of the innovation and creativity, the backbone of modern economies.Originally posted by BarakzaiAbdali View PostI would posit that this is a consequence of our being members of that vibrant family known as the animal kingdom.... the bee finds the flower, the ant seeks out the crumb and so on and so forth.
The immigrant experience plays a major role in this push. I refer you to the biography of the nobel laureate Roald Hoffman of organic chemistry fame:
"Roald Hoffmann entered Columbia University in New York City in 1955. He planned to study medicine and become a doctor."
When I read his autobio years ago, he talked about the fact that the new jewish immigrant population urged their children into medicine for some of the same reasons these immigrant groups push their kids into it. He talked about how his mother and father tried to force him along this way and that many of his bright colleagues ended up in Columbia medicine for the aforementioned reason. He decided to be a maverick.
Immigrants are acutely aware of instability back home and my assumption is that besides wealth generation, their secondary focus falls on being somewhat risk averse and finding constancy.
In this way, this wave of Hindu and Muslim as well as Chinese immigrants were often gifted engineers from their homelands. They did what the jews did and sought constancy in a profession with some respect.
What they found in their gatherings were that they had to chase jobs from city to city and might have a nice job one year and be subject to economic woes by being laid off the next. They recognized that physicians, while not making a super salary immediately were rarely if ever unemployed and could easily transfer into a new profession within medicine if challenged in their own field.
Eventually as the immigrant jews got a footing, their risk taking became more common and circumstances forced them to branch out and diversify. My guess is that the same phenomena will happen with the other immigrant populations with due time.
Basically what will happen is that Pashtun Hoffman's will break apart from the rest as resources and a firm footing occur in the rest of the families.

i used to have this very well known and accomplished indian family doctor for years whom i hated to a great extent. i would go to him once every three years and even that would be an unpleasant encounter. he made it seem like i was a hypochondriac of some sort. so eventually i stopped bothering with doctors all together. pain killers became my staple diet(he told me they were migraines) and i don't recall getting a full night's sleep in over 7-8 years.
a few months ago and for what i thought was a minor concern, i went to this new doctor who at the most was in her late 20s (and she was white!)..she listened to me explain my concerns and in within 7 minutes of the conversation, she pulled out test forms and sent me for an MRI and a bunch of other blood tests and what not. with in a month, they found a tumour in my head and in two months i am going in for either chemotherapy or surgery. within a year, life as i have known will change drastically and in a positive way. yaaay me!

May Allah make your recovery easy and make you strong again, so you can live life to the fullest!
I am also currently going through a hard period in terms of health. My health has been really strong all my life, but in the last 6 months, I feel really fatigued and tired, on occasions I also get tremors and my hands/feet start shaking. I have been booked with few different specialists for the next few months, so far I am not sure what is wrong with me. All the blood tests are fine, but it could be some thing neurological

don't be sorry. i am glad they found it. the tumor it's self is not cancerous but it's growing and pushing against other things in the brain. i could end up blind or with a ruptured brain vessel at any moment.. i am just so angry because i got back to my studies this year and apparently it has had a great amount of negative impact on my concentration abilities amongst other sorts of psychological and physical crap that i am not even going to get to. i assumed that i was struggling with studies because it had been a long time since i was a student but apparently that wasn't the case. if i knew this was happening, i wouldn't have stayed up all those nights , night after night to study for exams and would have waited for another year or something..
but yeah, if your condition concerns a neurologist, don't take it lightly. if you feel something is wrong with you and the doctor says otherwise, go to a different one for a second or third opinion. good luck.

Btw, I wanted to ask, did you have any more symptoms other then migraines? I have also had very low concentration abilities most of my life, I have always wondered why that is, since my brothers are very good at concentrating and studying.
Yeah I will hopefully go to neurologist, the wait line is so long

i started feeling pain and pressure in the back of one of my eyelids. it would twitch like hell and i thought and was told it was because i wasn't sleeping and that it was due to the migraines or that i needed to change my glasses. sometimes half of my head on the same side would feel numb from pain or there would be a burning sensation in the mornings which i thought was a sinus allergy. i often joked about how intolerant to heat i became. when it gets to +10 Celsius, i get a headache and i feel nauseated. if i am watching television and the lights are off in the room, i get a headache. normally when i get headaches, i take painkillers, blindfold myself with a scarf and tie it hard to numb the pain and go to sleep.
i was never someone who would burst in tears easily. my ability to cope with stressful situations have declined alot. when i lose my keys, in with in 20-30seconds, i become someone else. very very loud and angry or burst in tears. i started getting anxiety attacks for no reason at odd times of the day or night..
then a few months ago, i was participating in a discussion with a group and i noticed that frequently i would forget what my point was halfway through while i was talking or my mind would go blank. (i thought i was becoming self conscious and nervous of speaking in a public platform as of lately which had never been an issue in the past) i was unable to finish my sentences regardless of how much i would try. i would simply leave it in the middle of nowhere and request that someone else speak. that never happens to me. if there is one thing i am good at, it's talking.. at the time i thought it was because i have stopped socializing and been spending too much time at pf but apparently that wasn't the cause...

We will all pray for the betterment of your health.Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.
A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Thanks,
Recently I have been also experiencing anxiety attacks. This year has also been really stressful, with the health situation and the marriage situation not going well, I am really stressed out to begin with. Perhaps this is effecting my health and I am loosing the ability to handle stress.
I am also more nervous. I was a very good speaker in my college days and easily use to give good presentations infront of many people, yet now at work I get so nervous if I have to give a presentation just to even one client.
Perhaps I really need to forget everything and go far away for months or even a year. That's why I earlier said that I wanted to go to a place like Yemen and forget everything.

Inshallah you will be fine, some times in life we dont know why certain things happen to us, why we go through physical and emotional pain. We really have to look at the positive side of life to live happily, always look to the future for a better day. Before I really use to be down and sad all the time, but now I realize I can not live my life like that, because life is too short and we have to make the most of it with whatever we have.
