Iqbal Punjabi is a fabricated hero invented by Pakistan to find itself a hero. His mother Imam Bibi was a devout Qadiani and so was the rest of his family. He on the one hand was calling for Muslim unity but on the other hand was writing eulogies of Queen of England and receiving stipend from them. His son Javed Iqbal in his book "Apna Gariban Chaak" writes that he neither fasted nor said prayers.

      ^ You and your ideologies

Where he wrote a single thing that was against Muslim unity?

If tomorrow somebody say that Ghani Khan wasn't a good philosopher just because he drank wine and didn't pray than? Pa aram sha mara !!
yao warokay ghwandi baagh ao pa khwa ye seen rawan!

I have also read "apna grebaan chaak"...I was quite shocked when i read about it. His mother was indeed a qadiani, so was half of his family. There was some great confusion/conflict in his family, iqbal himself was devout sunni and told his son in wasiat to live strictly as sunni.
He never said that his father did'nt fast or pray at all, he said that his father was lazy in fastings during ramadan and prayers...still it was shocking thing to read about iqbal from mouth of his own son. Javed iqbal was heavily criticized for this in pakistan, and also for his views like sharam is not haram in islam.
One of our teacher used to joke that in jawani iqbal was regular visitor of hera mundi, as his house was in anarkali near hera mundi...

Man i think we should nt believe in some teachers who can say anything about anyone whom they dont admire. on the other hand even if his mother was qadiani but still his father was sunni, although not prcaticing one but still he was sunni. like most of muslims nowadays dont offer prayers . allama iqbal is our hero and will always be .and this tormano is very racist abt all the heroes of pakistan.
Well let me tell him what his hero was. afghan king ahmad shah was a looter plunderer, and also attacked on women. he didnt care about no body as prescribed by our prophet(pbuh) that we shoudlnt kill children women old anybody during war. but he did all this stuff , so was ahmad shah a hero or a looter. they need to confirm that first. As these afghans call our hero Jinah a lapdog of britishers . well he was the same of nadir shah(turkic king of iran). And nadir shah was such a big looter that he didint even leave the expensive chair of shahjahan and took it back to iran.

Ofcourse i did'nt believe in my teacher words as he was joking, but i could'nt refuse his son's words.
I have read iqbal's poetry, in my opinion he is greatest islamic philospher of 19th century. There is huge number of his admirers in afghanistan and iran where he is known known by "iqbal lahori". I was naturally shocked when his son was saying that iqbal did'nt like to fast and all women in his did'nt pray at all or that his elder brother and mother were qadiani followers, against whom intense hate is taught to us in Pakistan.
Toramana's reasons are different. He doesnt understand difficult urdu of poetry. He hates iqbal because he was desi indic?? I mean seriously that should'nt be the reason you should hate people. Then he questions iqbal's family faith, but he himself is a non-muslim...a non-muslim racist is definately going to hate iqbal. If any afghan/pashtun reads iqbal poetry, he wont hate him as his poetry is full of praises for afghans....

                  Please include his full name:

Sir Muhammad Iqbal, who was knighted by his British king, George VI, for all the services that he rendered to the crown. Sir Iqbal was a close supporter of the Muslim League, amongst whose founders was Sir Agha Khan, another servant of the Empire.

Here's an example of Sir Iqbal's service to his colonial masters:

May I tell Dr. Thompson that in this passage I do not put forward a “demand” for a Moslem state outside the British Empire, but only a guess at the possible outcome in the dim future of the mighty forces now shaping the destiny of the Indian sub-continent. No Indian Moslem with any pretence to sanity contemplates a Moslem state or series of States in North-West India outside the British commonwealth of Nations as a plan of practical politics.

Although I would oppose the creation of another cockpit of communal strife in the Central Punjab, as suggested by some enthusiasts, I am all for a redistribution of India into provinces with effective majorities of one community or another on lines advocated both by the Nehru and the Simon Reports. Indeed, my suggestion regarding Moslem provinces merely carries forward this idea. A series of contented and well-organized Moslem provinces on the North-West Frontier of India would be the bulwark of India and of the British Empire against the hungry generations of the Asiatic highlands.

                  Yours faithfully,
                  Muhammed Iqbal
                  St. James’s court, S.W.1, Oct. 10.

During this time, Bachaa Khan and Gandhi were being constantly jailed and kept under surveillance because they wanted the British to leave India.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

can you tell me that you made this reply before watching this video or after ?? The members here told that you are unable to get standard URDU,
thats why you made a silly attempt to go against the thread poster.
It sounds awkward ....I don't know who is the person in your mind whom you named Allama Iqbal!!(You don't even know whether Allah exists??!!
who even don't really know the word religion ,now you are gonna inform us about the approach of our Herossss to Islam !!very strange)

NO GOD BUT HE (UNITY OF GOD)
The secret of the Self is hid,
In words "No god but He alone".
The Self is just a dull-edged sword,
"No god but He," the grinding stone.
An Abraham by the age is sought
To break the idols of this Hall:
The avowal of God's Oneness can
Make all these idols headlong fall.
A bargain you have struck for goods
Of life, a step, that smacks conceit,
All save the Call "No god but He"
Is merely fraught with fraud and deceit.
The worldly wealth and riches too,
Ties of blood and friends a dream
The idols wrought by doubts untrue,
All save God's Oneness empty seem.
The mind has worn the holy thread
Of Time and Space like pagans all
Though Time and Space both illusive
"No god but He" is true withal.
These melodious songs are not confined
To Time when rose and tulip bloom
Whatever the season of year be
"No god but He" must ring till doom.
                    Many idols are still concealed'
In their sleeves by the Faithful Fold,
I am ordained by Mighty God
To raise the call and be much bold.

No No he is not a Christian if he was a Christian I would be happy because they have some moral ground. He is actually atheist who does not believe in God, in God's word and his messengers.
He being a secular atheist has lost his way in the darkness of the westernisation. He does not know what Pashtunwali is andwhat Pasthuns believe. He is supporter of the ANP thugs who have established records of corruption in their tenure who destroyed our pashtun culture and still destroying it and promoting damtob and dance culture.

Iqbal had good intentions and visions for muslims in south asia, however modern pakistan doesn't reflect his ideas at all. He wouldn't approve of today's pakistan and would be disappointed at the things happening in that country

Iqbal wrote an eulogy of the British Empire upon request from Sir Michael O'Dwyer, the governor of the Punjab and architect of Jalianwala Bagh massacre. This was in the wake of the infamous Rowlatt Act. The eulogy was read out in 1918. In it, addressing the King of England, Iqbal says:

"If there is freedom of speech and writing here, if there is peace
between the Temple and the Mosque here,

"If there is an organised system of business of the various peoples
here, if there is strength in the dagger and life in the sword here,

"Whatever there is, it has been granted by you, O honoured one, this
land is alive only because of your existence.

"I am the tree of loyalty, love is my fruit, a just witness to this
                            statement are my actions.

"Sincerity is selfless, so is truth selfless, so is service, and so is
                            devotion selfless,

"Pledge, loyalty and love are also selfless, and devotion to the royal
                            throne is also selfless,

"But being human the thought which arises naturally is, that your
                            favours are manifest upon India."

This was published in the paper Akhbar-i Haq, the magazine Zamana of Kanpur, and the book Hindustan aur Jang 'Alamgir (`India and the World War') by L. Ralya Ram. It was then published in Baqiyyat-i Iqbal, on pages 216 to 219. It was first read out by Dr. Iqbal himself at the Punjab University Hall, Lahore.

During this time, Bachaa Khan and Gandhi were being constantly jailed and kept under surveillance because they wanted the British to leave India.
Also, upon the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, Dr. Iqbal penned an epicedium of ten pages, entitled `Tears of Blood'. It was due to his loyalty to British that he got away with the murdering of the prostitute at Hera Mandi. According to one source,
On Queen Victoria's death on 22 January 1901 (which day
was also the id-ul-fitr), he, Iqbal, composed an elegy of 110 couplets,
praising the deceased Empress, paying servile tributes to her,
grieving for the loss, and calling her death a muharram for the
Muslims' of India.3 The poem was published at government
expense. Encouraged by official approval, Iqbal himself translated
it into English under the tide of "Tears of Blood"

Not only in poetry, Iqbal in a servile way praised British in prose as well.
“Many among us, including myself, believe that England at this time possesses the capability of leading the whole of mankind towards this objective. The thinking of the people of that land, their political understanding based on a deep study of human nature, their unshakeable, serious, resolve, their moral superiority over others in many aspects, their astonishing control over material resources, the existence of many movements among them for the welfare and betterment of human beings, and their discipline in every walk of life — all these are things which no outsider can refrain from admiring.”
                              (Harf-i Iqbal, p. 167, from the year 1930)
