Why some fear China and India are on the road to war

When Manmohan Singh warned of China's "new assertiveness" last week, Asia watchers snapped to attention. The normally sage Indian prime minister accused Beijing of seeking to expand its reach in South Asia. With China muscling for resources and geopolitical clout, India, he warned, had better take heed. The timing of the rare public rebuke was especially provocative, as it came hot on the heels of a series of diplomatic flare-ups between the two giants. Temperatures on the continent are rising in step with the Asian rivals' growth....

India, Japan, US, Europe, etc. in the same camp while Punjabis (represented by Talal here), Arabs, and Chinese will form the other pole of the bipolar world.

I don't think there will be any war between India and China because it is not in any body's interest. China and India are the two country who thinks every thing on Economical terms not on sentiments and slogans like Pakistan does on the Issue of Kashmir. In war between India and China, anybody will not gain anything but loss only(Both are Nuclear Power). So only posturing and war of words will happen between them.

The spectre of China and India going to war with each other as dipicted in this article is an alarmist one remote from objective conditions. Both countries have mature leaders and populations and know how costly the war could be. There at most would be diplomatic rivalary, regional competition, and some proxy wars.

But hold on. I have few Punjabis (represented by Talal on this forum) here and also a Hindu friend. The PMs(Punjabi Muslamans) try to scare my Hindu friend with Chinese inentions to divide India and Paki plan to drop an atomic bomb on India. What impresses me is the humality and wisedom of the Hindu who answers "no war is not possible".

We cant completely deny the fact of differences and enemity between India and China....China is doing great harms to India.....interms of Arunachal Pradesh...if upeople know...

Resolution between enemies might not be necessarily through war(As both are strong countries in all aspects to talk about, as mentioned by all above).....

so chances are less of war......

Indians here willknow China is already doing harm to India by sending its short lived products which are inexpensive, hence generating a lot of waste....difficult to deal with.....another issue alltogether.....Great we are that we are accepting it...not realizing the long term effect just catering to positive needs....

Indians would be morons without nuerons if they opt to fight China as she will be just helping Zbigniew Brezenski' American plan to manipulate other powers to destroy their rival in making. I am sure India on the contrary resolves her issues with China so both help each other become world economies to counteract US hegemoeny and bring balance of power as well as strengthen Afghanistan so it should not be used as a playground against any one of them. Pakistan is too unpredictable for any such role.

the whole region is already in huge mess, the war is in no ones interestes. then china and india are very smart power, they concentrate on their economies. they both will never go into war.

                            Spogmai,

India's biggest enemies are US and China. Pakistan is a useful tool that does their dirty work.
Ideally India and China should cooperate to negate US hegemony in Asia. However PRC arrogance prevents such a desirable outcome. Nonetheless leaders of both these countries are wise enough to not start an overt war.

China not only harms India's economy by flooding Indian market with substandard products, but also maligns Indian brands by manufacturing fake products. For example, recently consignments of fake medicines from "Indian" companies were caught in some countries. On further investigation, it was discovered that these medicines were manufactured in China.

                              MasterKhan,
China "destroyed" India in 1962, when an idealistic Nehru was the PM of India. He thought that war was no longer an option for resolving international disputes. After independence, he wanted to disband Indian Army or use it only for policing purposes. Since '47, no significant investment was made in defense sector.

After India's "destruction" and getting military toys from US, Ayub Khan started getting ideas. What happened in '65 is history.
