Nazia: Yes the Dari Bible reveals volumes. Reports say the IAM leaders were old hands in Afghanistan. But were they that assimilated into the culture that they would be preferring to do their "Bible Study" classes and discussing with each other fine points of The Book of Such and Such, but --- in Dari ?~
Zarawar, that saying is funny. It should be inscribed on huge signs and put on the Kabul airfield and all NATO bases as a warning to all visiting foreign personnel....!
Are you sure the guy had actually converted ? Maybe he was debating whether or not to?
Did he see that you saw? He must have been really nervous and fearful that you would see the Bible. It's interesting that you still saw it right away despite his efforts to hide it.
Did you say anything to him or rushed out of there to avoid an argument?
In general, perhaps the Taliban were so enraged at all the deaths of Afghan civilians and others such as at Sangin that NATO perpetrated, that they took out their fury on these foreigners as symbolic of the intrusions by Western people.
If those assailants took time to think, they probably intended this as a pointed warning to all other groups: "Afghanistan is not a place to have picnics with Sunday School lessons with the locals. Don't dispatch aid workers who may have an unwelcome secondary agenda."
Shlombay is right too - it IS probably a big lure for many of these Christian organizations to "win souls" in "benighted countries", which is likely how they see it.
