there are four forms of punishments in the world.
one type is to take someone who has done something wrong, isolate them until they learn to participate in society in a better way. this is like sending someone to rehab for being an alcoholic.
one type is to classify them separately from the rest of society so they learn from that isolation while still being a part of society and to keep other members of society safe from them. this is like when a sex offender is on a special list. people who hire them know better than to let them be around children or others who may be vulnerable to their type of abuse.
one type is to to punish someone for what they have done and then give them an opportunity to live their lives in a reformed manner. like releasing someone out of jail after 20 years. in all of these sorts of punishments, the aim is to send that individual out to the society in a better state. these forms of punishment benefit society as well as the person who has committed a crime.

then there is a fourth type of punishment that probably stemmed from the time when human being were walking around like apes. it's to chop people's hands off for stealing, hang them or stone them to death. even if they are wrong, it doesn't prevent crimes from happening. as a matter of fact, it's the most useless and barbaric form of punishment with zero benefits to the society or the person who has committed the crime. which sort of these punishments does sharia law use??
what does this say about muslims as a society?? why are we investing or promoting something that has no use to anyone in society?? how can we claim that our religion is a religion of peace when we fail to spot faults like that in it?? how can we fix anything if we don't change the way we see things??
