Amrullah Saleh: ISIS in Afghanistan “Psychological Warfare”
By ZABIHULLAH MOOSAKHAIL - Wed Apr 15 2015, 3:37 pm
0 Comments300 viewsEmail Email Print Print
Amrullah SalehThe former head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) – Afghanistan’s intelligence agency – Amrullah Saleh says that Islamic State is not a reality and it is “psychological warfare”.
Amrullah Saleh has told Radio Free Afghanistan that whatever ISIS is doing Iraq and Syria, Taliban are doing that in Afghanistan.
“In reality, Daesh (the Arabic name for IS) will not be able to gain influence or spread roots here, because whatever Daesh has been doing in Iraq and Syria, the Taliban have been doing the same in Afghanistan for the past 20 years. The only difference is that the Taliban never executed their prisoners in orange jumpsuits.”
Another reason Amrullah Saleh has given is that most of ISIS leaders are Arabs who are in Iraq and Syria and therefore they won’t be able to recruit many people in Afghanistan
“Another reason that Daesh won’t be able to establish a firm footing here is that it is a Salafi or Wahhabi organization, most of whose leaders are Arab. Their leaders are in Iraq and Syria, and they are not able to attract and recruit many Afghans.”
Amrullah Saleh has said that ISIS is rejected by the people of Afghanistan.
“To date, Afghanistan’s people have rejected the violent [IS] movement”.
ISIS controls large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria where they have carried out atrocities. Taliban leadership has also ordered fighters not to let ISIS operate in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan could face war with ISIS (Daesh), Ismail Khan says

ISIS in AfghanistanThe former Afghan Minister of Energy and Water and one of the most powerful warlords, Ismail Khan, has warned that Afghanistan could face a war with the terrorists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) if the current situation persists without any improvement.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Khan insisted that the government should ot resolve internal differences and improve the security situation in a bid to thwart the threat by the terrorist group.
Khan further added that the supporters of the ISIS terrorist group are growing because of the government’s divisions.
“The differences that exist in the national unity government . are helping to boost the enemies’ morale, the morale of Daesh and the Taliban,” Khan told the AP, using an acronym for the Islamic State group. “This has made people really very worried.”
The remarks by Khan comes as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani acknowledged for the first time last month that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group was gaining influence in Afghanistan.
Speaking during a press briefing ahead of his visit to United States, President Ghani said “Daesh’s characteristic is that it is man-eating. It swallows its competitors.”
“Here, it is not physical presence of people from Syria or Iraq. It is the network effect,” President Ghani added.
The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) militant group also released a video late last month which purportedly shows the beheading of an Afghan soldier while the group pledges allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group.
The group is actively operating in northern provinces of Afghanistan and was previously operating under the shadow of the Taliban group.
In the meantime, a video emerged online earlier this month which is believed to be the first ISIS video with the group’s flag in Afghanistan, reportedly filmed in a valley not far to the south of Kabul.

The authenticity of the phonographs has not been ascertained as the Afghan officials have not commented regarding the report and photos yet.
The Sa’ad bin Abi Waqas Front has been reportedly running the training camp led by Sa’ad Emarati, a former commander in the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan who defected to the Islamic State’s Khorasan Province last year along with other disaffected Taliban commanders from Afghanistan and Iraq.
The group was named after Sa’ad bin Abi Waqas, an al Qaeda emir in Kunar province who was killed by the US military in an airstrike on April 14, 2011.
The latest report suggesting establishment of training camp by ISIS in Logar province comes as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani acknowledged for the first time last month that the terrorist group was gaining influence in the country.
Speaking during a press briefing ahead of his visit to United States, President Ghani said “Daesh’s characteristic is that it is man-eating. It swallows its competitors.”

“Here, it is not physical presence of people from Syria or Iraq. It is the network effect,” President Ghani added.
This comes as a video emerged earlier this month which purportedly shows militants loyal to the terror group operating in a valley not far to the south of Kabul.
The video published by CNN shows a group of masked gunmen who are covering their faces like the ones in Iraq and Syria while holding flag of ISIS in their hands.
The militants are saying that they are recruiting fighters for ISIS and are in constant contact with ISIS commanders in Iraq and Syria.
“He called us, saying: ‘the IS people have come to Afghanistan — let’s join them.’ Then we joined them and pledged allegiance to them,” one of the militants appearing in the video says.

afghan woman recruited by isisThe Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group has taken the first Afghan woman to Syria by recruiting her through Australian by internet.
During an interview with the a delegation of Western journalists and media opinion leaders in ARG Presidential Palace, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani once again expressed concerns regarding the emerging threat of the terror group in the region.
President Ghani called the terror group an “internet phenomenon” and said the group does not need a physical presence.

But their pattern of organization is distinct, what I have argued is that based on the pattern that they have established, I see an emerging threat. I am not alone in this, the government of Iran is concerned about this, other governments are concerned, but we do not want to await the dramatic actions that have characterized them, their mode of operation is to eat their competitors.”
