• Taliban's Mehsud faction severs ties with TTP

PESHAWAR: The spokesman of the Mehsud faction of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Azam Tariq on Wedesnday announced that his group under the leadership of Khalid Mehsud, has formally separated from the central outlawed militant group.

The spokesman of the Mehsud group, who was also a central member of the Taliban shura, made the announcement in a press conference from an undisclosed location.

Azam said that promotion of sectarian mindset and individual ideologies has created rift among the Taliban and they were deviating from the real cause. He said that the present Taliban regime was carrying out bomb attacks on public places with fake names and also money was being extracted from madrasas and other institutions which was not acceptable.

He added that the other Taliban factions were also becoming distrustful of the main organisation.

Azam further said that the Mehsud group had tried to reform the TTP, adding that despite its efforts, conniving elements in the organisation had emerged successful.

The spokesman said that these elements had handed over management of the central organisation into the hands of unseen forces.

Two factions of the TTP, the umbrella grouping for disparate militant organisations, have been locked in bloody clashes for the past several weeks.

Differences emerged after Hakimullah Mehsud was killed by a US drone in November last year and with a crisis developing over future leadership of the organisation.

The conflict brought Mehsud’s followers led by commander Sheheryar Mehsud against supporters of Khan Said Sajna.

Infighting among the factions has also impeded and undermined what little progress had been made in the peace negotiations with the government.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

More facts

Mullah Fazlullah is living in Afghanistan, where Karzai is giving him sanctuary.

Afghan intelligence assumed that they could now control the TTP and use it against Pakistan but the ISI has managed to infiltrate within the TTP and destroy it.

It's really hard to compete with the best intelligence agency in the world.

The cease fire certainly has confirmed that TTP is responsible for more than 90% of terrorist activities in Pakistan and almost 98-99% of Suicide blasts.

Next Thing the govt should do is to seperate the Civilian Mehsud tribe and offer them development opportunities.

TTP had already collapsed with the fall of Hakeem Ullah Mehsud.I doubt TTP will survive more than a couple of years.

To stop the extremism in Long term,The govt should immediately either merge FATA with KPK or Form a new province out of them.Develop educational infra, especially universities and other related infra.

Mehsud group was majority in TTP and they also are in favour of Peace talks.Leaving odd 25-30% of odd strength of TTP from the already weakened TTP.

Took alot of time but Thank God with the sacrifices of more than 50k Civilian,we are now enough close to the Pakistani prior to 2001.

"Both Afghan and American officials said the Afghan plan to aid the Pakistan Taliban was in its preliminary stages when Mr. Mehsud was seized by American forces. But they agree on little else."

Doesn't say anything other then the Afghans *attempted* to have talks with TTP, were shut down by the US and then openly admitted to it

You think the US wouldn't know if the afghans were secretly providing shelter to the TTP?

did you read the third link genius?

Former interior minister Rehman Malik said on Friday that the first thing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should do is meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai and negotiate the return of Tehreek-eTalibanPakistan (TTP) leader Mullah Fazlullah back into Pakistan.

If Fazlullah is brought back, terrorism in the country will be halved, he stated. He continued saying, if Pakistan can hand over Afghan Taliban prisoners back to their authorities then why cannot Afghanistan do the same.

The TTP were “anti-Islam” and against the country, Rehman Malik told media in Islamabad.

“If there are 2,000 TTP members and if even 15 of them or 100 of them are anti-Pakistan, then I think they are all against Pakistan,” Malik stated.
Even if America had caught Afghanistan supporting the TTP, what makes you think they've stopped their support? They're most likley doing it more carefully now, more discreetly and the fact of the matter is that Fazlullah is in Afghanistan and although the Afghan government doesn't admit it, they don't deny it either......that says a lot.

Rehman malik? sounds legit...

The Afghans have no control over nuristan where fazlullah is supposed to be hiding out, even if he was there and they wanted him out you think they could? heck even the US had to withdraw from there early http://www.longwarjournal.org/threat...ghanistan.php#

Think about what you're saying, the US which monitors all of Afghans internal and external communications(https://wikileaks.org/WikiLeaks-stat...-the-mass.html) , has 50,000 troops plus intelligence officers in the country doesn't know what Afghanistan is upto at all levels? C'mon

Nuristan is in Afghanistan therefore he's in Afghan territory and if the Afghan government can't control the tranquil valley of Nuristan(nowhere near as dangerous as Waziristan or Kunar), then they should let a Pakistani special ops team to go into Nuristani and bring back Mullah Radio....dead or alive.

The US should have never killed Hakimullah Mehsud. He was a strong and respected leader, in my opinion, the smartest general the Taliban have ever had.

US keeps making things work instead of it better.

But TTP has faced similar disasters before.
1- In 2008, bhittani group under haji turkestan parted away from TTP and clashes between two continued till operation in south waziristan, 2089.
2-In early 2009, baitullah, maulvi nazir and hafiz gul bahadur formed 'council of united mujahideen'.
Baitullah Mehsud, Mullah Nazir, and Hafiz Gul Bahadar have joined forces and created the Council of United Mujahideen to fight against 'infidels' in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the US.

This alliance fell apart within months.
3- In early 2009, a mehsud faction under Qari zain parted away from TTP and joined hands with haji turkestan.

There are other numerous cases of small infightings and desertions in TTP since their formation. One shouldnt be hasty in declaring victory. This war is far from over, pakistan is unable to do some thing about TTP's stretagic depth i.e kunar and nuristan. Pakistan declared in 2009 that they have cleared south waziristan but TTP is still ambushing security forces there. The nature of durand line is such, that TTP cant be cornered like tamil tigers. This war is of decades, statistics are meaningless as there are always ebbs and flows in this kind of warfare

So in order to end TTPs strategic depth in Kunar and Nuristan, should Pakistan carry out drone strikes on those lands harboring militants? it wouldn't really matter because according to Adam those places are out of Afghanistan's control.

Paki special ops? Lol. Coward paki soldiers do not have the guts to conduct ground commando actions in hostile territories. Thats why they rely on long range heavy artillary shelling, tanks, jets and gunship heli shelling in FATA, no matter what amount of collateral damages are they inflicting on villages. Paki army is surely responding to TTP's presence in kunar and nuristan, by artillary shelling on Afghan villages , killing irrelevant innocents.
After huge slaughter of SSG in swat operations of 2007 and 2009, they are no longer considered effective. Pakis have adopted rather easy way, tackle the enemy in conventional way, bomb them and their civilians from distance and air.
Interestingly indian army show more guts than paki army. Every time they face some lashkar e taiba militants in kashmir, they kill them through gun battles instead of seeking help from air force or gunship helicopters.
I remember in 2008, afridi taliban captured kohat tunnel from army. Instead of dealing with them through commando action, they used misiles and shellings from cobra gunship, destroying the inside of costly kohat tunnel.

It would be declaration of war against Afghanistan and Afghan nation, unless they themeselves request help from you against Taliban in their areas.
