  • For decades Jamaat e "Islami" in Bangladesh has received funding and support from Saudi Arabia but when Saudi goes to war against the pro-Iranian Houthis, the Jamaatis don't extend any support.

The Saudis are wisening up and realizing this group are a bunch of traitors who have no love for Saudi despite the millions they have received from them.

Vilification of the late king Abdullah on the Jamaati facebook page Basherkella, this is despite decades of strong Saudi support for the Jamaat.

On their website there is absolutely no mention of the Yemen crisis or any support for Saudi over it:

Ironically they do publish an article on a Jamaati leader expressing his "pity" for Hindus who died in a Hindu festival.

So though they have time to write about that they have no time for unimportant things such as the country which is the birthplace of Islam and important to the entire world due to oil, Saudi Arabia being at war.

On their facebook page they have no interest in Saudi either.

Here is their current photo stream:

Now on the other hand a Bangladeshi nationalist like me who is anti-Jamaati is covering the Yemen crisis heavily.

I am also saying that if Saudi is threatened (internal Yemeni politics and bickering is not a threat to Saudi security, I am talking about a real threat to the territorial integrity of Saudi), Bangladesh should give its total support to Saudi including providing troops and if necessary volunteers e.g. drawn from Bangladesh's 5 million VDP reservists.

For years the corrupt, lying and treacherous Jamaatis have made fools out of the Saudis.

However I think the Saudis are wisening up and the unlimited support they used to give the Jamaat is over.

The Jamaati rank and file are more pro-Iran, pro-"Muslim" Brotherhood and anti-Saudi.

    • By the way though the Jamaatis published an article about their sorrow over the deaths of Hindus in a Hindu ritual, this is just P.R.

On the ground level the Jamaatis have carried out persecution of the Hindu community and hate them.

There is no place in modern Bangladesh for this extremist organization.

In the run up to the general elections and its aftermath, Bangladesh has seen a series of attacks on the Hindu minority in different parts of the country, especially the north. The Islamic fundamentalist group, Jamaat-e-Islami, has been largely responsible for this violence.

“Jamaat-Shibir (the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami) has created a situation of panic in and around the village. They destroyed around 50 shops in my area and we had to flee to another village to take shelter,” says Jaynto Mondol, a resident of Ramganj, whose family has been living in the village for generations. Speaking with The Diplomat, the 43 -year-old grocery shop owner feels that “the fundamentalist forces want to turn the nation into a purely Islamic country by throwing the Hindus out. We can’t live in peace. For two weeks I have been taking shelter in a friend’s house in a neighboring village, to save ourselves from the lurking danger.”

“The problem is not the Muslims of Bangladesh; the problem is with Jamaat and their thought.

      - Saudi Arabia is the reason why this terrorist organization still exists in Bangladesh.

      - Saudi Arabia is the country being tricked in to supporting this terrorist organization with millions and millions, though receiving very little in return.

All of Iran's proxies are supporting Iran publicly in the media over the Yemen crisis including the Lebanese Hizbullah and Pakistani Shia organizations etc.

Image from Basherkella, Jamaat's propaganda page on facebook.

A Jamaati using the name "Abu Daud" (father of Daud [David in English] i.e using the Arabic "kunya" system) says:

"saudi r bad. iran is good"

As I said for decades the Saudis sincerely felt this was group represented Muslim brotherhood and misguidedly supported them.

        Saudi has choices.

        1. Ban them and declare them a terrorist organization.

        2. Withdraw all support from them and be opposed to them.

        3. Withdraw all support and be cold/indifferent to them.

        4. Keep on supporting them conditional upon them providing strong support for Saudi e.g. opposing any illegitimate Iranian policies against Saudi.

Personally I think Saudi should work for a break away group to emerge from Jamaat which is pro-Bangladesh (and not pro-Pakistan), apologizes for 1971 war crimes and respects Saudi Arabia.

        • Bangladesh is facing a serious threat from the Saudi-backed Jamaat e "Islami" terrorist organization.

This includes the economic and financial power of this terror outfit.

The Economics of Islamic Fundamentalism in Bangladesh

          May 28, 2015

          Amitava Mukherjee

In 2013, the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a rabid Islamic outfit in Bangladesh, released a list of 84 ‘atheist bloggers’ whom it vowed to punish by way of assassination. Within two years, nine of them have already been killed. After much delay the Bangladeshi government has finally banned the ABT. But there is room for discomfort as the government has shown an apparent dearth of conviction while dealing with Islamic fundamentalism.

This came out clearly in the statement of Sajeev Wazed Joy, the son of Hasina Wazed, after the death of Avijit Roy, a Bangladeshi-American blogger who was hacked to death in Dhaka last February. The Bangladesh government had simply kept quiet after the murder, and did not even send any condolences to Roy’s injured wife. On the other hand, in an interview to Reuters, Joy expressed that the political situation in Bangladesh is too volatile for the government to comment publicly and that the ruling party – the Awami League – did not want to be seen as atheist. “Given that our opposition party plays that religion card against us relentlessly, we can’t come out strongly for him (Avijit Roy, the murdered blogger), Sajeev told Reuters.

Bangladesh is now passing through a critical time in her history. Hasina Wazed knows that she must confront radical Islam if she wants to stay in Bangladeshi politics. But she is also hesitant. Meanwhile, Abdul Quader Mollah and Mohammed Qamaruzzaman, two front ranking leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami have been executed for crimes against humanity during the liberation war of 1971. Successive judgements by the War Crimes Tribunals in Bangladesh handing out death penalties to several big wigs of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) have certainly dealt a severe blow to fundamentalist Islamic politics in that country and have helped Hasina Wazed, the incumbent prime minister, in her declared mission of punishing those who committed crimes during that time, but it can be said with a fair amount of certainty that the enormous financial clout of the fundamentalist bloc will provide it with the necessary sustenance during this critical time. If Hasina Wazed really wants to wipe out every vestige of religious fundamentalist politics in her country, then mere execution of some religious bigots may not deliver the desired result and she would instead have to uproot the financial tentacles of the entire fundamentalist bloc.

Radical Islam in Bangladesh is represented by the Jamaat-e-Islami, its numerous sister organizations, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and to a lesser extent the Jatiya Party. During the liberation war, the Provisional Government of Bangladesh had forbidden all types of religion-based politics. But Mujibur Rahaman made a serious mistake when, in 1974, he declared a general amnesty for all wartime criminals. Taking advantage of it, the JeI leaders who had fled to Pakistan again came back to the newly independent Bangladesh. Ziaur Rahaman, Mujibur’s successor, banished the idea of secularism from Bangladeshi constitution and H.M.Ershad, the next president, made Islam the state religion. When Khaleda Zia became president, she took JeI as her alliance partner. That was the beginning of the long march towards radical Islam in Bangladesh.

According to Abul Barkat, Professor of Economics at Dhaka University, the Jamaat-e-Islami has created a ‘state within state’ and an ‘economy within economy’ in Bangladesh. In his opinion, the Jamaat has now established itself in almost every sector of the Bangladeshi economy- from large financial institutions to household-level micro credit organizations, from madrasas to mass media, and from big trading houses to non-governmental organizations. Barkat has calculated that Jamaat’s net annual profits from such ventures amounts to about $278 million, and the largest chunk – 27.5 percent – comes from banks, insurance, and leasing companies. Next comes the NGOs which contribute 18.7 percent; 10.5 percent comes from trade and commerce; 10.1 percent from pharmaceutical industries and health care institutions; 9.4 percent from education sector; 8.8 percent from real estate business; 7.3 percent from transport; and 7.7 percent from media and information technology business.

Of all the major political parties in Bangladesh, the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami have the strongest business lobbies and, ironically, persons accused of crimes against humanity during the liberation war dominate these lobbies in both parties. However, with the death sentence to Mir Quasem Ali, a business tycoon and central executive committee member of the Jamaat, there is a possibility that its political trajectory might change a bit. Apart from Mir Quasem Ali, Jamaat’s business lobby is represented by Abdur Razzak, also a suave barrister, though he represents a weaker faction and there is a strong possibility that Jamaat will try to bolster its business empire even if Mir Quasem Ali is not around.

Nearly ten percent of its total annual net profit of $278 million goes towards funding the party’s political activities. It has also been calculated that this ten percent can sustain nearly 600,000 cadres. Since the support base of the Jamaat is increasing, its business activities may also increase proportionately. However, the Jamaat-controlled economy is growing at a faster pace than the national economy. While the former’s annual rate of growth now stands at the 9 percent mark, that of the mainstream economy is only 6 percent. Abul Barkat has calculated that from 1975 to 2012, Jamaat has earned a profit of 11 billion dollars.

Mir Quasem Ali, the Jamaat central executive committee member and an infamous character, was the director of the Islamic Bank of Bangladesh Ltd. (IBBL), Jamaat’s principal financial arm. The IBBL has been involved in illegal activities for a long time. In 2006, the Bank of Bangladesh, the country’s top regulatory institution for the financial sector, had slapped a heavy penalty on the IBBL under the purview of the Money Laundering Act. The beneficiary of such illegal acts of the IBBL was no doubt the Jamaat-e-Islami. It is interesting to note that the IBBL was founded in 1975 at the initiative of Fuad Abdullah Al Khatib, the Saudi ambassador to Bangladesh. This was when Mujibur Rahaman had just been murdered and Ziaur Rahaman, the next president, had busied himself effacing all signs of secularism and religious pluralism from the body polity of Bangladesh.

Apart from the IBBL, Jamaat is in control of fourteen other banks. But the IBBL is its principal arm for survival. It has now become one of the three largest banks in South Asia, with sixty percent of its shares held by Saudi individuals and institutions. Among the rest, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar have prominence. Recently the bank has further spread its tentacles in the Islamic world by tying up with the Al Razee bank of Saudi Arabia. It is therefore clear that the battle will not be easy for Hasina. Jamaat has recently entered into the insurance sector as well, entering into a collaboration agreement with the Far Eastern Islamic Insurance Corporation.

If information from across the border is to be believed, then the Jamaat has already begun taking steps to safeguard its financial interests and line up the next generation of leaders should Matiur Rahaman Nizami and Mir Quasem Ali actually be hanged. For over 40 years, Mir Quasem was Saudi Arabia’s ‘ money man’ in Bangladesh and it’s quite probable that pressure pour in from the Islamic world of West Asia and the Middle East to stop his execution. He had taken refuge in Saudi Arabia after the birth of Bangladesh. After coming back in 1974, he immediately got a job in the IBBL and soon became its director.

Jamaat-e-Islami has another financial arm named the Islamic Bank Foundation (IBF) which can be called an affiliate of the IBBL. It oversees the projects of the IBBL. Profits from these projects and interests from foreign donations go to IBF accounts in the IBBL. Mir Quasem Ali happens to be the chief of the IBF as well as the national (Bangladesh) director of a Saudi Arabia -based non-governmental organization named Rabeta-al-alam-al-Islami. Rabeta, along with other NGOs like the Kuwait Relief Fund and the Al-Nahiyan Trust of Saudi Arabia, used to run many projects in Bangladesh. Abul Barkat, the Professor of Economics at Dhaka University, has calculated that the Islamic fundamentalism-controlled economy in Bangladesh amounts to 8.62 percent of the nation’s developmental budget and 1.54 percent of the national export earnings.

          1. Jamaat e "Islami" is a terrorist organization which preaches hatred of non-Muslims such as Hindus.

          2. It only exists in Bangladesh, despite popular wishes for it to be banned, due to Saudi pressure.

          Yes, Saudi pressure, not Pakistani.

          3. For decades the Saudis have been sponsoring radicalism and terrorism through out the Muslim world and now...

apparently parts of Saudi Arabia have now been occupied by the Houthi militia.

Saudi tanks have been destroyed in the largely unmarked Saudi-Yemeni border.

Saudi troops are being killed regularly by Houthi militia.

However their beloved Jamaat e "Islami" has not given one word of support for them, this despite them giving millions of dollars for decades.

The Saudi support for the Jamaat seems to be strong.

The Jamaati support for the Saudis seems to be zero.

This is a recent image from their facebook propaganda page, "Basherkella".

            1. The "Md Abir Hossin" guy says "i love is", which presumably means he loves this terrorist attack in Saudi.

            2. The Mir Zafor guy says "ami sunni o Islamic state er pokke", which means

"I'm on the side of the Sunni or Islamic state".

I cannot say for certain that it means that this Jamaati supports ISIS but that's what it seems to mean.

In contrast to their hatred for the Saudi regime, the Jamaatis love the "Muslim" Brotherhood and Morsi and have plenty of pictures on Basherkella supporting him.

              1.

              2.

              3.

Sisi is also described as a "Feraoun" (Pharoah, symbol of evil for Muslims as Hitler is in the west)

              4.

On the same photo thread a Jamaati fanatic shows a picture of Egyptian leader Sisi being killed by a firing squad.

              5.

Then the same Jamaati fanatic posts pictures of ISIS.

Later Sisi is called a dog of Israel and the US.

Salman Al-Azami, currently operating in the UK. This man has come on Al-Jazeera and other pro-"Muslim" Brotherhood channels in support of Jamaati figures. He has never condemned Jamaati terrorism against innocent civilians or Bangladeshi citizens of Hindu origin.

              • Recent picture of Jamaat e Islami leader in Pakistan, Sirajul Haq with Arabs from the Saudi Rabita Islami organization.

The Jamaat is furious with the execution of a Jamaati war criminal in Bangladesh and so has the rest of the racist anti-Bengali Pakistani establishment.

Saudi Arabia has gone on terrorism overdrive sponsoring terrorism in Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc and has now launched a brutal war against Yemeni civilians.

The Saudi-Pakistan-Jamaat terrorist nexus is a high level security threat to Bangladesh.

                Anyway:

This is what Jama't's founder Maududi says about Pakistan:

Role of Moulana Maudoodi: (Historical facts)

                IN THE WORDS OF MAUDOODI:

                1. “The establishment and birth of Pakistan is equivalent to the birth of a beast.”[Tarjumanul Quran vol.31, p.59, 1948 Pakistan]

                2. “Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s place is not on the throne of leadership. He deserves to face trial as a traitor.”[Tarjumanul Quran vol.31,p.62, 1948]

                3. "There were three actors in the partition of India. Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s performance proved to be most unsuccessful”.[Tarjumanul Quran vol.31,p.70, 1948]

                4. “It is haraam to vote for the Muslim League.” [Tarjumanul Quran vol.27, p.145, 1946, Pathankot]

                5. “Muhammad Ali Jinnah is the founder of fool’s paradise and an exceedingly sinful person.”[Tarjumanul Quran, Feb 1946, p.153]

                6. “Pakistan is a fool’s paradise and an infidel state of Muslims.”[Tarjumanul Quran, 1946, p.154]

                7. “Pakistan is filled with millions of robbers, thieves, murderers, adulterers and uncouth wrongdoers.”[Tarjumanul Quran vol.31, p.59]

                8. “An election campaign is a race of hounds.” [Kausar, 1950]

                9. “The Muslim League is an unrighteous and immoral party that has made our collective environment filthier than the lavatory.”[Jamaat Islami ki intikhabi jidd-o jehd, p.16]

                10. "The Mohajirs are deserters and cowards, who fought a national battle, but when the time came to pay the price, they took the path of escape.”[Nawa-e waqt, 29 Aug 1948]

Apart from point #10 I know many who would agree with everything that Maudoodi said above.

                • Iran's ambassador to Bangladesh:
There's no ISIS in Bangladesh; recent terrorist attacks direct result of imported terrorism

                  November 29, 2015 - 2:03 PM
                  ABNA

After recent terrorist attack against Shia Muslims in Bangladesh, ABNA news agency had a conversation with Iran's ambassador to Bangladesh, Hojjatoleslam Mehdi Va'ezi.

After recent terrorist attack against Shia Muslims in Bangladesh, ABNA news agency had a conversation with Iran's ambassador to Bangladesh, Hojjatoleslam Mehdi Va'ezi.

In this conversation Mr. Va'ezi pointed to the terrorist acts carried out against Muslims in the world for a long time and said: "Unfortunately, Bangladesh has not been immune to current crisis of terrorism, so we experienced the first act of terrorism against Shiites on Ashura this year."

Hojjatoleslam Va'ezi also pointed to the recent terrorist attacks in Bangladesh and said these acts are the direct result of imported terrorism.

"People of Bangladesh have never joined to ISIS terrorists. There is just a 'Jihad-e Islami' group which the government considers them as a terrorist group of ISIS," he continued.

"In fact, ISIS has no influence in Bangladesh, but it may be possible that the members of Jihad-e Islami to recruit for ISIS terrorists because of their political conflict with the government," Va'ezi told ABNA correspondent.

Expressing tensions betweenJihad-e Islami and the government he said: "These tensions date back to the war of independence in Bangladesh. At that time many of Jihad-e Islami's leaders colluded with the Pakistani army against the independence of the country. So, after the independence of Bangladesh, the government persecuted many members of Jihad-e Islami group and even executed them one by one."

He continued: "Oppositions of the government were also aided by Saudi Arabia. In this way, Jihad-e Islami group became stronger and now they have banks and hospitals here."

Counting two factors for ISIS's failure to hatch a plot in the country he said: "There is ethnic integration in this country and 90% of them are Bengal. So, there are no such different ethnic groups that ISIS could use it for dividing people and put them against each other, like what they did in Pakistan. On the other hand, people of Bangladesh are the lovers of Ahlul Bayt (AS). 95% of the population is Muslims and all Shiites and Sunnis express their love toward Ahlul Bayt (AS) by holding different events in commemoration of Ahlul Bayt (AS)."

"Bangladesh has a population of more than 170 million, but despite the fact that Shiites are making a small number of the population (around 60.000) we don't see any religious conflict in the country," Hojjatoleslam Va'ezi also added.

At the end of his conversation and in response to how people of Bangladesh think about Iranian people, he said: "Iran and Iranians have a high position in public opinion of Bangladesh. So Iranophobia has no place in this country."

                  1. When this Iranian ambassador speaks of "Jihad i Islami", he in his laziness and perhaps ignorance is actually referring to Jamaat e Islami, as they are the ones who meet the description he gives of collaborating with the Pakistan army in war crimes, having leaders executed for atrocities and being supported by Saudi Arabia including building banks and hospitals.

                  2. The huge irony is this:

Jamaat e Islami is actually a pro-Iranian organization whose rank and file prefer Iran to Saudi Arabia.

The fact that the ambassador basically calls this group a bunch of terrorists and refers to their Saudi connection means he (or even Iran as a state) disowns them.

Out of the three big powers in the Muslim world, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Iran all of them have in the past supported Jamaat.

However Saudi Arabia seems to be cooling its support for the Jamaat and so is ironically arch-rival Iran.

It is now Turkey which backs this essentially Pakistani nationalist terror organization.

                  This is an interesting development.

                  Hasina with an Iranian official.

                  Iranians come to Dhaka.

Hasina with the Iranian ambassador to Bangladesh.

To be honest I was never too keen on Iran but at least they do not have the hostility to us that the Saudis do and do not view us from a Pakistani-centric prism of promoting Pakistani interests that the Saudis and other Arab monkeys do.

With sanctions possibly coming off Iran, let the trade roll!

Saudis are trying to blackmail us in to sending 0.2 million Bangladeshi women as "house maids" (slaves) and then an end to their sanctions (labour ban) on us, but Iranians treat us with more respect. I am not fond of Iran or Iranians but at least they are a people with history, culture and civilization unlike the lizard eating savages of the Najd (central Saudi Arabia).
