I am not an Islamic scholar, but I know why I endorse it and why it should be implemented.

Hmm.. so that means NO one ever smokes in public spaces, since it's against the law? Just wondering.

And I was looking at the the video's caption, and the person wrote something like, "women don't publicly smoke in Pakistan." So I was confused exactly what the issue was, whether she's breaking some social, legal, or religious rule, or what.

I don't believe in breaking laws. They're there for our own good.
But what i meant is ... in REALITY, many people break it, so I don't know why we point out certain individuals who break it while ignoring the others who break it as well. We shouldn't be breaking it, but a lot of us do. Hypocrisy is extremely common.

And I don't know this lady, though the video title makes it obvious that she's a politician.

Surprising :D So what does the police do, then? Don't you get to bribe them to get your own way, though -- OR blackmail them if you're rich?

The government of Pakistan promulgated the Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance in 2002, banning smoking at public places and on public transport. Later, the ordinance was enacted as a law.

Persons entrusted with public offices must uphold the regulations they cosign, infact that is not sufficient for they must exemplify!

So if I call the Pakistani police now and report Heera Mandai, they are going to go and arrest all the sex workers, pimps and the visiting Pakistani government officials?

Sherry Rahman..? You know Benzair's sidekick..?

I guess when it's a public figure they're more likely to be scrutinised, especially if they work in the Government, since they're the ones who should be implementing the laws. It doesn't look good if they're breaking the laws themselves, kana.

Plus, women smoking isn't considered.. respectful or honourable. I know men smoke too, I think the same rule should apply to them, but unfortunately they get away with these things.

Don't worry, yours is not an isolated case. Half of the folks here don't knwo who and what they are talking about - blabbering & talking outside their field of expertise has become a past time for most.

                        Is that the 'red' mosque?

Akbar, How many forms of Shariah law are there? I once saw this interview of this British Muslim who was against Shariah law cause she said there are way too many version of it.
The whole notion of 'different versions' of shariah law is there to cause cognitive dissonance amongst the ranks of Muslim brotherhood. This propaganda has been going on for a while but Rand corps. report by Benard epitomizes the propogation of this falsehood.

There is only one Shariah law, there is none second to it.

No to T.Vs and Internet? can you list the Shariah law, Please? and Hi.
You plainly lack all common understanding of political and social caulker.

Hear it from the horses mouth on NPR radio in America. Notice when Hashemi answers their question and asks them for evidence on their 'women rights' allegations, they change the subject to 'journalist'.
