KABUL: The United States special representative for Afghanistan and
Pakistan has said that they intend to restore the Silk Route (SR) for
increasing of the trade purpose in the region.
The SR is a famous historical transit highway that links Afghanistan to
central Asia and China.
US diplomat, Mark Grossman has said that establishing the SR will connect
the Middle Asian countries’ economical zone to New Delhi and even to
Bangladesh while Afghanistan and Pakistan are located in the center of the
same route.
Once a day the central Asia commodities will go to India and vise versa
through Afghanistan and Pakistan , said Mr. Grossman to voice of America.
The project will be started in next months and continue to years, added
Grossman.
According to him, this project creates job opportunities and will enhance
the abilities and economical capacities for both Afghanistan and Pakistan in
order to take decision over their own livings.
He called the access to the economical markets and products important as
well as more investment and employee spheres necessary saying that
these were the major important factors for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Afghans are not so optimistic to the statements of US officials
due to not fulfilling their promises so far.
Herat MP, Khalil Ahmad Shaheedzadah in the Lower House believes that US
will not be honest in their words as they have not invested in great
projects like mine and agriculture the most economic sectors so far. The
westerners only want to attract a great fund and put in their own pocket
as they have done in last ten years through construction companies and
NGOs, added the MP.
Shahedzada while calling the project significant in enhancing the economy
of the country said that it will link the country to eastern and international
markets.
He also proposed that there must be tried to link the country to Indian
Ocean and Persian Gulf.
-------
I have to agree with the MP on this one.
If it happened though it would help the economy of a future Afghanistan (hopefully one whose decisions are not dictated by the US or others).
