  • Old Silk Route to be Revived

KABUL: The United States special representative for Afghanistan and
Pakistan has said that they intend to restore the Silk Route (SR) for
increasing of the trade purpose in the region.

The SR is a famous historical transit highway that links Afghanistan to
    central Asia and China.

US diplomat, Mark Grossman has said that establishing the SR will connect
the Middle Asian countries’ economical zone to New Delhi and even to
Bangladesh while Afghanistan and Pakistan are located in the center of the
    same route.

Once a day the central Asia commodities will go to India and vise versa
through Afghanistan and Pakistan , said Mr. Grossman to voice of America.
The project will be started in next months and continue to years, added
    Grossman.

According to him, this project creates job opportunities and will enhance
the abilities and economical capacities for both Afghanistan and Pakistan in
order to take decision over their own livings.

He called the access to the economical markets and products important as
well as more investment and employee spheres necessary saying that
these were the major important factors for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Afghans are not so optimistic to the statements of US officials
due to not fulfilling their promises so far.

Herat MP, Khalil Ahmad Shaheedzadah in the Lower House believes that US
will not be honest in their words as they have not invested in great
projects like mine and agriculture the most economic sectors so far. The
westerners only want to attract a great fund and put in their own pocket
as they have done in last ten years through construction companies and
    NGOs, added the MP.

Shahedzada while calling the project significant in enhancing the economy
of the country said that it will link the country to eastern and international
    markets.

He also proposed that there must be tried to link the country to Indian
    Ocean and Persian Gulf.

I have to agree with the MP on this one.
If it happened though it would help the economy of a future Afghanistan (hopefully one whose decisions are not dictated by the US or others).

          Silk Route Will Be
          Rehabilitated A New

The US administration wants to rehabilitate the Silk Route anew so that Afghanistan
change into a central trade venue among the South and Central Asian countries and
job is prepared for the people.

Presently a large number of people due to unemployment have become opponents of
the government as they have no other means to meet their needs. The news adds
that the US wants to carry on a series of discussions with Afghanistan for
rehabilitation of Silk Route at the Bonn and Istanbul conferences.

These two conferences will be held this year in Germany and Turkey. The US
ambassador addressing a presses conference said that Washington will invest USD 100
          million for this purpose.

The historic Silk Route has its economic significance for Afghanistan that presently
has become a monopoly and trade center for low quality consumer goods of some
          countries.

The US ambassador stated in Kabul that with opening of the Silk Route Afghanistan
annually will earn billions of USD and thousands of Afghans will find jobs. He added
that the US tries its best to assist Afghanistan in reopening of Silk Route so that
through this project government income will be raised and the US will provide USD 2.8
          billion USD.

Efforts for reopening of the Silk Route starts at a time that most of Afghans are
suffering from poverty and the daily income of some families is less than one USD.
