  • Imran Khan demands apology from Pakistan to Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: Ex-Pakistani cricket star Imran Khan has demanded an official apology from the Government of Pakistan to the people of Bangladesh for the atrocities allegedly committed by the Pakistan Army in 1971.

Imran Khan stunned everyone during a live television show hosted by Hamid Mir on Geo News and Geo Super TV channels on Wednesday afternoon just a few moments before the start of a cricket match between Pakistan and West Indies in Mirpur, Bangladesh.

Hamid Mir invited Imran Khan in his live TV show on March 23, which was Pakistan Day. He asked a question to Imran Khan about the expected behaviour of Bangladeshi crowd in Mirpur. Imran Khan said that Bangladeshis will support the Pakistani cricket team.

Hamid Mir informed Imran Khan that today (March 23) is Pakistan Day and Bangladeshis will support Pakistani cricket team “Don’t you think that the time has come that the Pakistani government must apologise to the people of Bangladesh for Army operation in 1971”? Imran Khan immediately agreed with Hamid Mir and said that previously he was also of the opinion that Army operation was a good thing because there was no independent media in Pakistan in 1971. Imran Khan said that when he went to England in 1971, his Bengali friends told him the reality of the Army operation. Imran Khan said that he experienced the love and affection of Bangladeshis during an exhibition match in Mirpur in 1989.

He said that the Army operations always created hatred in Pakistan and we must apologise to Bangladeshis. Responding another question, Imran Khan said “we must learn lessons from our past mistakes and we should not repeat these mistakes in Balochistan and tribal areas where we have started Army operations on the US pressure”. Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan is the first ever Pakistani dignitary who has demanded an apology from Pakistan to Bangladesh on a live TV show in Pakistan.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

    just politics at play here.

A lot of atrocities committed were by the Bangladeshis, so I can see why it's difficult to apologize when the "other side" refuse to.

It's fairly well established now that the cessation of East Pakistan was planned by BangaBonga (or whatever his name is) well in advance of the war.

The trouble arose with the elections of 1970 in Pakistan. West Pakistan voted for various parties (mainly Bhutto), East Pakistan voted along ethnic lines for BongaBanga (or whatever his name is).

The Bangladeshi party won the vote, and all was fine until the policies were set out that included the creation of a loose federation between East and West Pakistan (in foreign policy alone).

So because the Legal Framework Order was being violated, BangaBonga wasn't allowed to take power (Bangladeshi rulers of Pakistan were many in the past, Iskander Mirza etc). It was because the state was being threatened that power was denied.

So militias were trained up in Bangladesh, and the Urdu speaking Bihari population were massacred by the Bangladeshis, and had other atrocities inflicted upon them. West Pakistan's army was deployed to restore order, which it did. Then the order was given to quell the uprising and here Pakistan's Army probably committed some atrocities. Most of these atrocities are madeup by Bangladeshi Nationalists. Recent studies have indicated that Bangladeshis ripped the heads off pregnant women and then blamed such crimes on the Pakistani Army in a very double faced, aggresive, but short and lazy way.

So it was a messy war where both sides probably should apologize to each other.

the troll doesn't even know the name of the person he wants to criticize and you are asking him for sources? lol

this trollrunner is on pakistani government's pay roll to sit here and whitewash all the anti pakistani rhetoric. That is why he is here 24/7 on watch patrol. He probably gets paid by the post, and not the content, which is why everything he has posted so far is half assed and reeks of laziness.

Actually army operations in east pakistan started when protest against pakistan become violent and within days more than lakh pakistanis were killed by bengalis. Pakistan army was then ordered to control the situation and general tikka khan showed no mercy at all.

Actually this was inevitable. If you have an establishment where most of the population is on one side and the power is on the other side where representation was unequal in the administration of the country. A clash was bound to happen. All the protests and the slaughtering where just effects of a wider problem.

                              Not true.

Power resided with the Bangladeshis unfortunately.

There was an unequal balance between East and West Pakistan.

East Pakistan had around 140 times more primary schools for example, so money was invested into West Pakistan to redress the balance.

Most of the prime ministers of Pakistan came from Bangladesh unfortunately.
