  • Hazaras: Shi'as and Ismailis

I have always been curious how Hazaras became Shi'a and then some of them Ismaili (followers of the Aga Khan).

Many Hazaras have told me their ethnic group has no links to the Mongolians, but genetic research shows approximately two thirds of all male Hazaras possess "the Y-chromosome of Genghis Khan".

So, logically speaking, most of them would have come to Afghanistan after the Mongol invasions/migrations. If anyone has any information as to why or how these people became Shi'a and/or Ismaili, please do share.

Hazaras see Iran as their Alliance .. i think they were heavily influenced by neighboring Iran (may be because of the language Farsi Iranians speak)... i am not sure 100% about the subject of why they chose Shia'sm... but one major factor could be that they were influenced by Iran...

and another factor that Pashtoons in afghanistan are Sunni madhab and there has always been a huge tension between Hazaras and pashtoons, and mainly they were opressed by pashtoons, hazaras would never accept a madhab that pashtoons (their opressor) accepted as their own

most ppl turned to shiaism as a consequence of Arab imperialism which had the mawali system in place

shias are to be found mainly in the Turi tribe and the Bangash tribe yet it also has adherents in the Orakzai tribe and the Pooplazai tribe... Pashtuns from these tribes can be found on both sides of the duraand line not 2 mentions people jumping ship from sunni 2 shia

And what of Ismailism? I know that in the West there are tons of Ismaili Hazaras. They seem to have an easier time with immigration than their mainstream Shi'a counterparts.
