We should focus on educating ourselves to produce more educated young muslims who can help to unite and fortify the ummah. We need to gain the knowledge and to regain our dominance in the world.

I don’t mean to say they’re Islamic figures, only that the West should know there’s more to us. Muslims, or even Arabs (of that era), were not illiterate camel herders, as the stereotype goes.
Religion, i.e. Islam, teaches and encourages to seek knowledge and to educate oneself about metaphysical matters not about physics,cemistry,biology......

When you say "us" it is practiically a misconception. There is no such integral muslim entity. Where ever you stand you will either be an Afghan,or Indian,or Brit or American etc.You will be a Muslim only when you a person is going to Church and you turn your face to Mosque. But even there you will have to find a mosque of Sunni,Shia,Salafi etc....

The heroes which you have mentioned were just pride for their respective nations and they should be.It wiill be unfair to get the credit where it is not due.

Islam encourages knowledge and education because the mind is not complete without it, also removing ignorance. It allows a person to act and think more vividly. There are varying statuses of different branches of knowledge, but they’re all considered to be beneficial.

The Quran actually tells us frequently to observe the Earth and the Heavens, this insinuates natural science as well as metaphysics.

‘Us’ - the Muslim Ummah; we are a community, be it strong or weak.

True, I get your point, but I'm not attempting to take credit. We're going in circles.. my point was Muslims, whatever their level of faith, have contributed significantly to the world's knowledge, and this perhaps may be unnoticed in various places.

          We'll leave it there.

The reference to the Earth and the Heavens is to converge the attention to the existence of God not to the sciences.

Ummah was used for the revolutionary group of Muhammad at his time. After his death it has always been Quraish, Bani Hasham, Ahlul bait, Bani Ummaya ,Bani Abbas ,etc etc. Gone are those days.It is all history.Stop considering Arab history as Muslim history and avoid glorifying Arabs in the name of Islam. A lot of our brothers and sisters are sufferign from NOSTALGIC FANTICISATION.

Tilka ummatun qad khalat laha ma kasabat wa lakum ma kasubtum.

You need to understand things in academic perspective instead of debating it in futility.
