    DEATH

It was early in the morning at four,
When death knocked upon a bedroom door,

Who is there? The sleeping one cried.
I'm Malakul Mawt, let me inside.

At once, the man began to shiver,
As one sweating in deadly fever,

He shouted to his sleeping wife,
Don't let him take away my life.

Please go away, O Angel of Death!
Leave me alone; I'm not ready yet.

The angel knocked again and again,
Friend! I'll take your life without a pain,

    This your soul Allah requires,
I come not with my own desire.

Bewildered, the man began to cry,
O Angel I'm so afraid to die,

I'll give you gold and be your slave,
Don't send me to the unlit grave.

I'll point my gun, towards your head,
You dare come in; I'll shoot you dead.

By now the Angel was in the room,
Saying, O Friend! Prepare for your doom.

Why are you afraid! Tell me O man,
To die according to Allah's plan?

O Angel! I bow my head in shame,
I had no time to take Allah's Name.

From morning till dusk, I made my wealth,
Not even caring for my health.

    Allah's command I never obeyed,
Nor five times a day I ever prayed.

A Ramadan came and a Ramadan went,
But no time had I to repent.

The Hajj was already FARD on me,
But I would not part with my money.

    All charities I did ignore,
    Taking usury more and more.

O Angel! I appeal to you,
Spare my life for a year or two.

The Laws of Quran I will obey,
I'll begin SALAT this very day.

My Fast and Hajj, I will complete,
    And keep away from self-conceit.

    I will refrain from usury,
And give all my wealth to charity,

    Death is ordained for everyone,
    Father, mother, daughter or son.

    I do understand your fears,
But it is now too late for tears.

Your parents, you did not obey,
    Hungry beggars, you turned away.

Instead of passing message of Muslims,
    You made your children non-Muslims.

    You ignored the Mua'dhin Adhaan,
Nor did you read the Holy Quran.

    Breaking promises all your life,
    Backbiting friends, and causing strife.

From hoarded goods, great profits you made,
And your poor workers, you underpaid.

Horses and cars were your leisure,
    Moneymaking was your pleasure.

You ate vitamins and grew more fat,
With the very sick, you never sat.

A pint of blood you never gave,
Which could a little baby save?

O Human, you have done enough wrong,
You bought good properties for a song.

Paradise for you? I cannot tell,
Undoubtedly you will dwell in hell.

With a cry, he jumped out of bed,
And suddenly, he fell down dead.

O Reader! Take moral from here,
You never know, your end may be near

Change your living and make amends
For heaven, on your deeds depends.

Umar (ra) used to wear a ring with death written on it, so to remind him.

Also we are told to visit graveyards for the purpose of remembering death, it is shaytan who wants us to not think about death. And when u bring this topic in a discussion most people say please dont talk about death its scary.

Why should fear guide us. The automatic respose to fear is not movement but freezing. Followed by the activation of fight or flight response.

In animals fear comes and goes, in human it can persist through intellect, momories and our understanding.

Having a world view based on fear is a very restrictive state of mind. It paralyzes the intellect, (actual suppression of frontal lobe activity with activation of amygdyla) and new ideas are blocked.

A world view of calm and happiness with no threat of being burned in seven hells is a much better place to start from.

Why shouldn't it? People would think twice when there's consequences.

Even with parents, they love and care for you, doesn't mean to say you won't ever be punished for doing certain things.

It doesn't quite work like that bro, even in effective societies there are laws which have to be followed, and punishments for those who don't abide.

It's like hugging crimials and telling them not to rob us because we love them.

                  Exactly good points GUley...

We live our life in this world full of fear of what will happen if we act silly or at work if we do some silly thing we will get fired from the job. Im not saying we should be scared to death otherwise we cant function or work properly.

The same way the fear that we are told by Allah, by fearing him is not that kind of fear also. It is a fear to know what will happen if you do something wrong, there are consequences

This love love kinda teaching is not right also. Or this kinda maintality where no matter what anyone does to you, just smile back and says its ok lets love eachother...imagine a murderer killing ur mother or your children in front of you, you have the chance to kill them wat would u do? Imagine criminals roaming the street knowing that society is preaching a no fear policy, then criminals will do more crime...

This is the exact fear I was talking about as well.

Setting behaviour boundries for kids while their brain is maturing is one thing and living your entire adult life in fear of being burned in hell for not being uptodate on arabic folklore is quite another. No body is advocating to reward criminals either. All I said was that being a happy person with no fears of akhirath and Gods multiple hells can be a very liberating experience.

I function quite well without irrational fear. If a criminal with a gun attacks me, fright does affect and i take cover and will shoot the ******* if I have too. I do have an innate fear of snakes and move away. But Allah does not frighten me one bit. Like the cute little puppy, running around I get no sense of fear from him or his hells. And I have found that their are millions like that. Very normal and law abiding, productive humans running around. Not one has killed another human or even robbed or molested one.

behaviour can be controlled in many different ways. Fear is just one of them. Basing morality on fear is a very primitive way of doing things and a sure way of constantly torturing yourself. It is however a very good way of controlling masses.

No one is saying the world should be based on fear, but is fear necessary for certain occasions? absolutely yes.

Not really, that is why the crime level is much higher in the most developed countries as well right?
Much higher than what? Kabul, peshawar, kandahar.

Deviant human behavior can be criminal as well as inspire revolutionary ideas. If you control and run things with intimidation you will achieve your goals but sometimes you lose on innovation and progress.

For example, we all know that speeding kills. If the speed limit on highways was to be brought down to 30 miles/hr, than the fatalities from accidents will be cut by 50-80 %. However you will pay the price of lost time etc. At the same time no speed limit will leed to a lot more deaths. So a reasonable compromise to maintain progress and efficiency.

with the same token, all I am saying is that the irrational fear of God, where even strange thoughts can put you in the slammer is not good for the intellect. It paralyzes the intellect and is equivalent to 10 miles/hr. Peaple need to relax and unchain themselves from the fear of Gods wrath (mullah power in this world).

this also hinders other avenues of progress. If your only barometer for not driving 200 miles / hr is whether their is police on road or not than you are missing out and will be dead soon. I dont drive fast because it is not safe. Similarly I dont jump any girl walking past me, not because allah is watching but because civilized peaple dont do such things and I have my own family and dont want someone else todo the same to them so agree on a common code of conduct.

God can be used just as easily as an excuse to do horrible things. You already are afraid and peeing in your pants, makes it very easy to decieve you into horrible atrocities in the name of God. anyone remember taliban, when the mullah told the victorious taliban that the women of kabul can be had as mal-i-ghaneemat, than in the abscense of other barometers of morality, they did not stop. No fear of God then, cause he had a 'thumbs-up'.

^Has the thought ever come to you as to why humans are capable of doing bad and good, and not just one or the other?
Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

[61:8] They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with the breath of their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers hate it.

[61:9] He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, even if those who associate partners with God hate it.

Yes, the statistics will show you all the developed countires topping the list.Similar to other countries (the developed and underdeveloped), they also have criminals of all nature since committing a crime has nothing to do with one being a citizen of developed or underdeveloped country. It also NOT dependent on whether you are a God-fearing or celestial teapot-fearing folk. It depends on your state of mind at the time of crime besides several other reasons. People who know that harming another human is not a GOOD thing from social and cultural standards would avoid killing another human just like the way they would avoid touching fire.
The developed countries report crimes and hence we have crime statistics for them.We can't say anything about Saudi Arabia's crime status, for instance, since it has disowned its people even the basic human right of freedom of expression and hence we can't have any crime data. Our women are abused and burnt with acid.Just two days ago Talibans flogged a woman (200 lashes) and killed her because she was a pregnant widow. Today Iran made Sakina "confess" adultery and murder (the same lady who has been persistently denying all charges for a long time). How about those children who are sexually abused and we never hear about them? The belief in god does not necessarily stop one from committing a crime. It's the law and fairness of the prevaling justice system which can minimize crimes if not absolutely stopping them from happening.
"O Pakhtuns!, Your house has fallen into ruin, let us rebuild it".
"I want to see my people educated and enlightened. A people with a vision and a strong sense of justice, who can carve out a future for themselves in harmony with nature".
