            It is the opposite.

We worship and at the end of our worship we pray.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

              Du'a is worship:

It was narrated from al-Nu’maan ibn Basheer (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Du’aa’ is worship.” Then he recited (interpretation of the meaning):

“And your Lord said: Invoke Me [i.e. believe in My Oneness (Islamic Monotheism) and ask Me for anything] I will respond to your (invocation). Verily, those who scorn My worship [i.e. do not invoke Me, and do not believe in My Oneness, (Islamic Monotheism)] they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!”

              [Ghaafir 40:60].

Al-Albaani said (it is) saheeh. See Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2685.

And it was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is nothing dearer to Allaah than du’aa’.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2684.

And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever does not ask of Allaah, He becomes angry with him.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani. See Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2686.

Thank you bro for providing this but in terms that the Kuffar understand I usually tell them that the Salat is worship while the "personal prayer" is prayer. I will look into this further and readjust my position if need be.

Maybe it is the difference between a Shinwari and a Safi? Unless you are dual paternity and somehow Shinwari and Safi males mated to make a new messiah for humanity. Aka Badlun!

i see what you mean. The problem with kuffar is that they have an entirely different conception of worship and prayer. I face the same problem when I am asked about Islam.

One worships before a deity, an image or an idol. It is done in a temple/mandir/church/synagogue/monastery. We Muslims just pray to Allah SWT direct. Our mosque is just a clean place designated for prayer, among other things. It is not a temple, etc where worshipping is done. Worshipping often involves sacrifice (in olden days even human sacrifice) or placing some item at the feet of the idol, etc.

Pray is more spiritual and worship is more ritual. I prefer Ismaili and Sufi concept of pray which do not endorse the ritual of salat with its especial forms.
We can pray anywhere. Even a mosque with its structure is a temple.

This post will address the exoteric (ẓāhir), the esoteric (bāṭin), and the reality (ḥaqīqah) of prayer (ṣalāh) and their relationship to the rituals of the sharī‘ah, the practices of the ṭarīqah, and the realities (ḥaqā’iq) of universal spirituality.

A good read.I wish all Muslims embrace Sufi, spiritual and Ismaili Islam.

but we pray to Allah in Salat too but only in Arabic. i think in islam worship and prayer are same. unfortunately 90 percent muslims have no idea what we are saying in Salat. they think we are repeating some magic words.
