    Educate youself about Islam.

There is difference between "Islam" and "muslim". Islam is a religion and muslim is its follower. If a muslim is comitting sins and is doing wrongs and causing troubles then it doesnt mean that islam becomes wrong/incorrect because of him.

Any how you have make youself the favourite member of Qrratugai by insulting Islam.

Clearly, we're all here for different purposes, no?

I didn't say it's Islam's fault, now, did I? Please quote me on where I said that. It's just, some of us love to deny everything.

Besides, I'm from Swat. I can't help it if the Taliban destroyed my people and my homeland and we have people on PF who actually still support the Taliban. Now, we know that those fiends (the Taliban) did everything they did IN the name of Islam, the Islam they believe is the correct one. Am just stating the obvious.

However, I didn't say Islam does this and that. I myself am a gender studies student along with interpretations of religions and Islam in Islamic Studies, so it's very unlikely of me to say that the wrongs that Muslim women suffer are all because of Islam. That's a rather ignorant remark, and I've never supported it.

If you don't understand Muhsina's comments, ask her what she means so she can clarify them for you, instead of telling her she needs to be educated.

And I quote her now to make a point:

Originally posted by muhsina View Post

So anyone telling her that "There's a difference between what Muslims do and what Islam says," HELLO - that's what she said too.

She's absolutely correct that Islam has dozens -- more, actually, like in hundreds -- of interpretations, and so it's difficult to determine whether anything's Islam's fault or not. But since we are Muslims and are therefore biased towards Islam and would therefore never, ever, ever think that anything's wrong with Islam, of course we're gonna say that, no, it can never be Islam's fault.

Muhsina, however, was honest enough to say, "I don't know whether it's Islam's fault," clearly saying that it may or may not be but avoiding a specific stance.

Nonetheless, I can quote specific verses from the Quran and thousands of hadiths that many would find degrading to women, but the best excuse some would give is: "NO! That hadith isn't authentic!" (even though it may be from Bukhari and Muslim, all of which most Muslim scholars say are fully authentic), and to the Quranic verses, people like me would say, "No, that cannot be true. It's possible that it has been misinterpreted and/or certainly mistranslated. Let's get a concordance of the Quran to see which other verses have used the same phrase or term and see what the term/phrase means in those contexts. And then let's decide if it makes sense to say that that word means X/Y in this context as well or not." And it's exactly for this reasons that I deal with hermeneutics, both classical and contemporary, because it's almost ALWAYS a matter of interpretations and who is doing the interpretations. Personally, I don't make a direct conclusion as to what a certain word means. I acknowledge the fact that the meaning must be far beyond my extremely limited understanding.

So, please, avoid making assumptions, or at least back them up by quoting me so I know that you're not making up a lie.

What you seem to call "Islam-bashing," I call "an honest critique of a certain interpretation of Islam." I never, ever say "Islam says XYZ." I always remember to put "an interpretation of this text says XYZ" (or "this interpreter says XYZ"). In the rare occasions that I MAY have said "Islam says XYZ," it must have been a mistake. I don't say anything about Islam without backing it up, or using my own arguments to support my stance.

Oh God no. I've never bashed ANY religion, ANY culture, ANY people. Just because I'm not quick to "defend" Islam when you think I should (becuase if I'm going to defend Islam, I'm going to defend all other religions as well: ALL are equal to me), doesn't mean I insult them.

However, please remember that WHENEVER Islam or any other religion is insulted on PF, you should report the post and the person so that a warning can be sent to her/him. And that includes me. I believe I've never insulted any religion, but if you think I have, you should definitely report me. That also includes my giving thanks to Islam-bashers or to posts that are offensive to Islam.

OR you can just contact a moderator (or contact me about directly, if you wish) so that we can clarify things. It's very possible that you misunderstand something I or someone else says about Islam or something else, and you therefore think it's insulting/offensive/bashing to Islam, ka sanga, wror gula?

Qratugai, do you have the rights yourself you are asking for? If yes I am glad and proud. If not what exactly have you done for it, like do you have choice in marriage? Obviously I can see you are very educated and I am sure this right was given to you.
We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

If I agree with you we w'd both be wrong.

Be good, If you can't be good be lucky

How exactly are women more exploited, and even so they're exposed by 'Muslims' not Islam. As Feroza Khorey says, they're supposed to be practising Islam, doesn't mean that they actually do.

Muslim women are sex boys.. why don't you switch on American TV, they live and die for sex. As for being the most insecure; we're slaves for God, not for fashion or men. It is not us who parade ourselves to find 'love', it's not us who spend our entire life tarting ourselves up, so we can be appealing, neither do we live our lives in accordance to please society norms. We're very much different from the rest of the world's female population, and we're proud of that. Alhamdolilah.

I know my rights as woman because I know my rights in Islam. if today I see my husband or any other person mistreating me, I know how to find him the sources to prove him wrong, and stand up for myself. I have lived a very blessed and happy life so far because of being a muslima, and knowing what all i have been blessed with from Allah swt. Islam has nothing to do with the mistreatment of women in so called islamic society (which in my mind doesnt even exist i.e. islamic society). it is rather due to lack of education in Islam. Let's face it, we live in a male dominant WORLD. mistreatment of women exists even more in the west but two wrongs dont make a right so lets not do a west vs. east comparison. east or west its women who are used and misused. the reality is that men have used all the measures to dominate women, be it religion, politics or media. look around yourself, think outside the box for a minute we are indirectly abused every minute. from the woman who is battered in east to a woman who a bulimic woman of the west who can't eat a single bite in fear of gaining weight and not looking like the perfect model posted on the back of the famouse magazine. i have yet to come across a true feminist who wants to work for the interest of women without a secret agenda. u will find countless feminists who either are lesbians, and want to legitimate their hatered towards men, or the aethiests constantly bashing different religion, or the feminists that have political motives, gaining votes and supports of women. anyways, stupid legnthy post...

                  he is a nice guy
2 yrs back i met him in dubai.. he was with his wife and daughter..
he is just a simple man

Let me ask a question here.. western lovers plz answer

Whats the status of a women in the west or outside islam?

each girl does sex with more than 10 ppl or even more, she gets pregnant by a guy whose not even married to her, laters he decides to marry.. in a year or two divorce and again think of marrying another one.
many of them spend their life being single and sleeping with all diff kinds of ppl

Why do we think that women are not secure in islamic countries? Its because islam keeps you away from zinah.. so when u dont have a wife/husband and you are a mature person, for sure you wil like to get involved in sexuality with ur opposite sex.
I See it as an exam not a problem for both men and women of the islamic countries... The more they keep themselves away from zinah, the more they gain sawab

Yes our inner shaitan is stronger in some cases which makes us go and commit sins such as zinah, look @ men/women, tease them and etc but we should never blame the islam for it.. its our own mistake
Keep yourselves away from bad deeds, no matter watever happens you might never commit any sin if you are keeping urself away..

its funny people telling muslim women how they are opressed and dont have any rights.

There is an organization in Holland for new Muslims. Most of their people are women. Young single women, sometimes mothers of children who live alone.

They have converted to Islam, and cince they dont have a family they hang out with each other.

I would love to hear them speak about how opressed they are for converting to Islam and choosing a life of subsiervience to cruel selfish men. LOL

Did you guys know that Zakir Naik was declared a kafir.
Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

[61:8] They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with the breath of their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers hate it.

[61:9] He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, even if those who associate partners with God hate it.
