each to his own, karachi. i believe in a creator and no-one has tried to stop me doing that. my neighbour is an atheist. i don't try to make him believe in a creator.
but 'beneficial' is relative. what a muslim may consider beneficial, a non-muslim might not. that was why i was asking you the question, as i would assume what you approved as' modernity', you would also consider as 'beneficial to society'.
eg: i consider having the sun and air touch my skin, as beneficial, wheras covering women is considered beneficial to muslims.

many seem to be pining for the past lifestyle.

Peopel don't abandon there religion when they are in distress or are in a weak position, if that was the case then the whole of Afghanistan would be atheist by now.
Yes they will first choose the Islamic patys and goverment but sooner or later they will realize that they are not better than what they had, meybe even worser, so then a true fall of Islam will accure.
