Can anyone please tell us from good sources, what are the conditions/reasons for someone being given azab e qabr?

I know about the reasons related to Non Muslims and hypocrites, but I want to know about the reasons/conditions (if any) of Muslims being given this punishment.

    Thanx.

There is no punishment of the grave mentioned in the Holy Quran. These verses are referring to barzakh.

Secondly, if the ahadith that are mentioned in Ibn Majah are taken literally then it poses a contradiction: what about those who cremate their dead?

You can believe what you want to believe in, but don't forget that a lot of things that are mentioned are metaphorical. Our Prophet (saw) has said that the Hereafter, from the point of death, no one has heard of and no one has seen. Their descriptions are metaphorical.

Islam will prevail, a promise made by the Creator of this universe:

[61:8] They desire to extinguish the light of Allah with the breath of their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers hate it.

[61:9] He it is Who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions, even if those who associate partners with God hate it.

No of course there is. But not the type of "punishment" that people think. It is a transitory period between this world and the Hereafter when the soul you have in this body reveals its station. Thereafter it takes another shape. This process continues until you have reached what is called al nafs al mutmainnah.

The 'adhaab that it is mentioning is when people realize that the Hereafter is a truth and how much they wasted their time. They will be saddened to see that people in high stations were not regarded as hopeful in this world.

What is the moral of the story? Take this world serious and work hard to achieve the purpose of your creation. Otherwise, you are in for a surprise.

The best way to achieve the purpose of your creation is Islam. It gives you the complete potential of achieving your purpose. You don't have to worry about looking for anything higher, because it is the highest. Whereas other faiths only bring you to a certain junction, a limited station. Once you reach the highest station that faith has to offer you are stuck. That is why people convert, because they feel that there is more to the purpose. Those are the sincere people.

According to the commentators of the Qur'an, there are several verses that refer to the punishment in the grave. Belief in the punishment in the grave is part of the `aqida of Muslims. The hadiths about the punishment in the grave are mutawatir.

This is answered in the answer I posted, wherein Imam al-Taftazani's (ra) commentary on the Nasafiyya is cited:
Some of the Mutazilites and the Rawafid denied the punishment of the grave because a dead man is solid (jamad) devoid of life and comprehension, so punishing him is impossible. The answer to this is that it is possible for Allah to create in all or in some of the parts a kind of life such as would be able to comprehend the pain of punishment or the enjoyment of bliss. This does not require that the soul (ruh) be returned to the body nor that it move or be troubled or show any mark of punishment, for even a drowned man in water, or the one devoured in the bellies of beasts, or the one crucified in the air is punished, although we do not see it. Whosoever ponders the wonders of Allah in the kingdoms of this world (mulk) and of Heaven (malakut) and the marvels of His Power and Might (jabarut) will not consider such things improbable, let alone impossible ( Sharh al-Aqaid al-Nasafiyya, 160-161). You can argue what you want, of course--Allah is All-Powerful. However, He does not go against a system which He Himself has created. There is no punishment of the grave mentioned in the Holy Quran. Those verses refer to the state of barzakh.

One cannot twist Quranic verses to fit ahadith. One must either reject the ahadith or view those ahadith in Ibn Majah in light of the Holy Quran. Not the other way around.

One doesn't do anything. One follows the guidance of qualified scholars. It is the scholars of Qur'anic commentary who interpret those verses as referring to the punishment in the grave. And it is the scholars of hadith who find the hadiths referring to the punishment in the grave to reach the level of mutawatir. The scholars are in agreement on the punishment in the grave being a fact. There is consensus on the issue.

                              .
You just proved to us that you know better than the learned Islamic scholar who wrote Tafsir Ibn Kabir !!!!!!

You know what a laughing stock you are gonna make if you go to learned scholars of Islam and tell them you know better than what is written in Tafsir Ibn Kabir???

Momin!! you should please consult a real Mufti/Aalim for this, for your own sake. Something tells me, this is not the only big err you have.

                              .
Wow! What a lousy thing to say!!! you know what this reminds me of? The Ayah in the Quran that says, the Kuffar i Makkah ridiculed resurrection after death and judgment, saying

will we be raised again after our bones have become dust !!!!
What kind of views are these that you are following? Next thing you gonna tell me is you can evade God's judgment by sending your ashes to space!!!

Man!! Let me tell you something, many of your core views are contradictory and against what the core majority of the Righteous Muslims believe!!

This is not the first time you have projected such erroneous views and portraying them as Islam.

(List of Narrators)The Prophet PBUH travelled to a garden (in Makkah or Medinah) one day, he heard the cries of two men, who were being punished in their graves, The Prophet PBUH informed us about their punishment, but said they were not being punished for a major sin, The Prophet PBUH then said, Yes (they indeed are being punished for a big sin), one among them did not used to save himself from drops of his urine, and the other used to gossip and indulge in back biting, then The Prophet PBUH asked for a twig and made two pieces out of it, and planted one on each of the two graves, The Prophet PBUH was asked why he did so? and He PBUH answered, May it be till these twigs do not go dry, that their punishment will be lessened till then.
