Don't come to London, over 17 here.
I'm gonna try and help my parents out more often by doing whatever they say without a single complaint, grumbling or anything. And i'm going to work for them more often as well, especially during Ramadan inshallah.---

reference to MasterKhan and GYOE comment on synchronised Eids, I wish dates can be sorted out so every one can have akhtar at same time. i know some like to see the new moon inorder to finish off a month of ramzan, which sounds reasonable, but technological advances have juxtaposed roza and eid at same time, we see it real time eid in Makkah on sighting of new moon and somewhere else muslims are still finishing off their roza and waiting for their new moon.
when i was in UK many years ago, the bengali mosque celebrated eid on a different day to pakistani A mosque which differed to pakistani B mosque which differed to Eid in Saudia.
perhaps a hundred years ago everyone relied on seeing the new moon in their countries, no tv no radio - it was better.
i don't know.

This is a great thread! i had a similar idea to this.
As for me, there are a couple things that I need/love to work on.
I love music, the sound of music soothes me. I commute to 2 different colleges but in different cities that are an 1 hour drive, and a killer in the morning and evenings due to traffic, so i tend to leave my cd player on with Pashto and Dari songs. I want to instead start listening to sepharah of the Quran-e Sharif instead of music. It is also in Dari tarjumani, so understanding the meaning of the versus better and having a better connection to it, spiritually.
I have to strictly not miss any morning for Fajr, that is my goal that hopefully in these 30 days, it will help to compute my mind to not miss one.

Masha'Allah, very good intentions. Allah make it easy for you to increase in His obedience and decrease in His disobedience in this blessed month.Originally posted by Laila View PostThis is a great thread! i had a similar idea to this.

I used to really be into music, from rap to pashto songs. And to be honest, I also felt different emotions when listening to music but little did I know that this was a detriment to my spiritual state. You see, if you notice, everything which Allah ta`ala has forbidden out of His infinite wisdom, there lies in it temporary pleasure whether it be drinking, unlawful relations/gazes, gambling, gheebat or any other type of forbidden act which Shaytan tries to beautify. And this concept of feeling "pleasure" can be extended to music, at least the impermissible type. Listening to music, at the very least which is actually something major in itself, replaces the love and desire of listening to and pondering over the Glorious Qur'an. The desire of listening to the creations' words accompanied by a hypnotizing beat has replaced listening to the Creator's words which has its own spiritual rhythm. A major factor that lends to this unfortunate situation is our lack of understanding of the words of Allah. That's why I was happy to hear that you will be listening to the tarjuma of the Qur'an along with its recitation. A pakhto translation along with recitation which I highly recommend all to listen to at least 15 minutes a day during Ramadan is by Professor Khitab. I will also, shortly, be uploading 'Da aakhiraniyu surato tafsir' by Shaykh Inayatullah sahib (db) in pashto which translates and goes into an explanation of the surahs which we recite every day so that we have better concentration when we recite in prayer insha'Allah.
Also, depending on one's spiritual level, one can listen to different nasheeds as a substitute to music but unfortunately that has also become similar to the music industry but at least the wording doesn't contain anything un-Islamic. But again, it depends on one's spiritual level. For example, an imam I know went from straight up music, to quwwalis with all types of instruments, to nasheeds with only the duff, to nasheed with only vocals, to only Qur'an, and now he says that listening to anything but Qur'an is a turn-off. On the other hand, I know those who have left it completely on the spot and have never returned to it.
This is the month of the Qur'an so let's try to develop a deep connection with it insha'Allah. The Beloved Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, so beautifully advised his nation when he said:
“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day let him speak good or remain silent.” [Bukhari and Muslim]
