Salaam.
I definitely agree that Islam offered human rights wayyyy before the Charter of Human rights. Women in Islam were given rights thousands of years before any other woman in the world.
I also know from studying Qu'ran, that Islam does not accept terrorism. There are ayas that discuss that if you killed one innocent person, it is as if you have killed the whole world. So, lets say you are going to be a suicide bomber, and run into a crowd of people. Who are you to decide that every person there is a kafir, and that they aren't innocent? Now the innocent person who is killed, inshAllah, will go to Jannah. But that person who killed will not.
There is a hadith about one of the prophets (pbuh) companions (Sorry I forget the name) who was in a battle. He was allowed to fight and kill in terms of jihad (ie country/family was being attacked) - he fought and had one man in his hands and was ready to kill him with his sword. The enemy in his hands then spit in his face, and the companion then didn't kill the enemy. Why? Because he wasn't killing for jihad, he would be killing out of anger, and therefore be judged as if he had killed all of mankind.
So...whatever the charter of human rights say, and whatever crazy monkey bombers say, the Quran does not allow violence, and I bet a lot of what is in the charter of human rights originated from the teachings of Islam. I know women being able to vote came from Islam, and then made its way into the Charter of Human rights.
I may be off topic a bit...I am quite opinionated. :P sorry
