Evidence in axioms is never required. If I say this is computer then I dont need to quote others to prove this is computer. My approach is very simply and straightforward. Pashtuns have some faults and they must remove it to become a great nation. Terrorism and extremism exist in Pashtuns and they have to counter it.

Democracy, human rights and development are desirable goals for Pashtuns. Islam is only a religion and secularism is not against Islam. Now what proofs and evidence I should bring for these points. I have written many pages on these but its just a diagnosis of the Pashtun society and the remedy is to remove the disease altogether, No germs no disease.

The few years of the Pious caliphs when there was no alternatives like democracy at that time is not a proof that Islam has a political system. The dictatorships of Abbasids and others were not at all some thing worthy to be imitated at this modern era. That was Arab-Persian-Turk-Afghan etc politics not Islamic as Islam being a religion how can cater for non religious stuff like politics or economics or music or education.

These were general discussions. Now I am planning to open a thread on secularism and other technical terms where only discussions based on proofs will be conducted with the request that only those should participate who have real interest in the cause of the betterment of Pashtuns and not just to feel winner of an internet discussion.This is a very petty goal. Lets learns respecting each other and tolerating others who may not agree with us. Not to humiliate others but share and guide and learn. Otherwise some times I feel how mean we are that just to feel victorious in this virtual world we use mortifying remarks for others.

Rather we should be happy that here is some one who spares his or her time and talk of the Pashtun affairs and give us some reason to participate otherwise who cares. If we dont come here then no body will ask us as many came and went. Appeared and disappeared. Because its not our job but here we are for a national cause thus lets be magnanimous and encouraging not humiliating, ridiculing or hateful.

Personally I really appreciate the friends who take out their time and come here to give us a chance to learn and share. This way we see another angel of the issue and our horizon of knowledge and experience get new vistas.

using fancy language does not make anything you say valid. The terrorism that you speak of has nothing to do with Pashtuns. There is no evidence that Pashtuns are terrorists. In fact, the political system you support has historically been, and currently is involved in terrorism. Fortunately, for the world, this system is finished.

let me tell you baygham, that when i was in turkey, iran and afghanistan, in 1977, there was no vibe about men feeling threatened by me. the iranis took me to their homes, i did portraits of them and their children, more the men than the women,though. i said hello when men called out to greet me, had men escort me to my hotel and buy me fresh apple juices. even in the home of the oldest man i sketched, he told me to take my shawl off, i ate with them and he even shared his opium pipe with me. the weapons he had on the wall, were swords.
before i went to iran other westerners had warned me, ooh, be careful, don't stay in iran for too long, don't walk in the streets at night, blah blah. but i broke a lot of the rules and had a wonderful time there.
in afghanistan it was different as i never went to the homes but i had a great time and men took me around to do portraits. i was always the only woman in a cafe but i never felt threatened or even frowned upon. turkey the same.
pakistan was different, i felt hostility there and was hassled in a train, where i had to go and get in the women's carriage and even the women harrased me. yeah, i didn't stay long in pakistan.

Things are a lot worse since 1977, turkey especially urban, is like travelling in europe (i did not get a sense of insecurity for women there), pakistan is becoming like somalia, where anything goes. People just dont have the same respect for life and limb.
Even sexual exploitation of boys is rampant. On showing his disgust at such practice, a village elder asked my friend. 'Why are you bothered(and showing moral high ground as if you are better) I have seen you drink beer too'. Meaning, to him, drinking beer and molesting a 12 year old is equal crime.
To them molesting a women is not a crime for the reasons you and I consider it a crime (the concern for the women/victim), the fear of hurting the women does not come to their mind. Most are not aware of these feeling, its more of will the family of the women kill me or not, is allah ok with it (he is ok with war booty and if the sect and faith is different) if the green light is there, like in a lone foreign women, or a women of no means, than for most that is enough to unleash the animal.
