There's nothing brave about validating the status quo; he was merely trying to appease the majority, very cowardly since such a tactic is always born out of convenience than out of reason.
It's not anyone elses business if some parents do not want their children to participate in certain activities they feel violates their values. As long as no one is being affected by their children's lack of participation in those things, then it should not be their concern.
Now I don't agree with restricting music or physical education, but I can understand why they do. I feel there can be alternative compromises, for example having gender segregated physical education classes or elective participation of music classes. If you're sincere about democracy, come to a resolution where all parties can agree on. Otherwise you're trying to force your culture on others, not the other way around.
There's no hypocrisy here, the world isn't defined by your variables; you present a false dichotomy,, that if people live in secular societies they do so because shariah is inferior; people living in Industrial Capitalist societies are mainly here due to imposed conditions on a global scale which compels dependency on capitalist institutions. It's something outside their control, it doesn't mean they see it as valid, it only means those things which are valid are being hindered from them.
This false dichotomy of if you want Shari'ah go to Yemen or SOmalia or if you want secularism go to Canada is nonsense. House Slave Kanwar said Canada is based on Judeo-Christian values, which if true, contradicts secularism. Furthermore Yemen is not a Shari'ah republic and Somalia apply extremist approach which contradict Shari'ah.
If Pakhtuns were to say Shari'ah is not for them, then it's the day Pakhtuns have lost their souls and are on the path of self destruction; then we should intervene and liberate Pakhtuns from their sickness so they can realize the destructive sickness they have been enslaved to by farangyan, and restore them back to proper health.
all the examples you list of the Teddy Bear incident in Sudan, have no bearing on Islam, Islam is wholly rational in how it approaches life issues, just because people exploit the word Islam, does not make it is ratified by Islam.
Your claim becomes just a red herring.
