Let's change the tune on official multiculturalism
About one dozen families who recently immigrated to Canada are demanding that the Louis Riel School Division in Winnipeg excuse their children from music and coed physical education programs for religious reasons.

The families believe that music is un-Islamic - just like the Taliban believe and then imposed on the entire population of Afghanistan - and that physical education classes should be segregated by gender even in the elementary years....

In any event, the school district is trying to find a way to adapt the curriculum to fit the wishes of these families, rather than these families adapting to fit into the school and Canadian culture.

Mahfooz Kanwar, a member of the Muslim Canadian Congress, says he has some better ideas.

"I'd tell them, this is Canada, and in Canada, we teach music and physical education in our schools. If you don't like it, leave. If you want to live under sharia law, go back to the hellhole country you came from or go to another hellhole country that lives under sharia law," said Kanwar, who is a professor emeritus of sociology at Mount Royal University in Calgary.

That might be putting things a little more forcefully than most of us would be comfortable with, but Kanwar says he is tired of hearing about such out-of-tune demands from newcomers to our country. "Immigrants to Canada should adjust to Canada, not the other way around," he argues....

1. His language is rough, but some Muslims' behavior causes this frustration for peace loving Muslims in Canada;
2. Canada does not invite such immigrants, people choose to come here.
3. Expected immigrants are provided with information, and they know where they are going is entirely different from their homeland, and their religious beliefs;
4. The School System in Canada is divided into Public School and Catholic School (religious) system; Under the religious system most of the mosques are running their schools, which are provided with government grants.
5. Every family has freedom of choice where they want to send their children. Public Schools are totally free. Catholic Schools are free too because they are under one main organization and they are equal to the standard of Public Schools;
6. Schools run by mosques have no central organization to control their standard.As usual every sect and sub sect have their schools. Teachers are paid way below the market and they employ untrained teachers which is illegal (there goes their Islamic Sharia) . For example a trained teacher in public school is paid $5000.+ a month with plenty of benefits, and Mosque schools pay a teacher $500. to $1500. a month with no benefits, no security of job (another violation of law and Sharia).
7. Public Schools are free from KG to grade 12. So are Catholic Schools and some other religious schools. Mosques' School charge a student from $200. up to $1000. a month depending on the reputation of the school;

8. All religious schools are required to have the standard curriculum and whatever else in addition they want to teach.

If a family thinks something is not acceptable to them in public school, the choice is open for them. They can pick any religious school they want.
Their demand to make changes in a certain School, to make it suitable to their religious requirement is not justified. There are mosques and mosques run schools all over. They should change school rather than demanding change in public school. Such demand by Muslims make a responsible man like a member of the Muslim Canadian Congress, furious.

Islam is only a religion simply because it talks only in detail about beliefs, worship and ethics. Read Quran and 95% its about beleifs, acts of worship and morality. Monotheism, prayers, belief in hereafter, moral injunctions are the only aspects of life described in full details. We dont have any detailed knowledge of politics, culture, economics, science and technology, society, arts and craftsm literature, education, sports, agriculture, live stock, fishery, forests, environment, irrigation etc.

Music and physical education the topic here is not at all with in the scope of sphere of influence of Islam and thus Muslims can remain Muslims if they listen or learn music and participate in physical education.

Coeducation is co oducation , its not doing sex in schools. Lets learn trusting in our womenfolk.

Well the good news is that they are intellectually defeated and here is why:

1. Osho admitted openly he is a neoconservative and does not invest in logic. That is amazing because people here who were on the fence, but know enough to understand what a burden the neocons have been to America now know what associations to make.

2. Baygham Khan Lala has shown inconsistency laced with an agenda. He basically endorses inteventionalism (see the thank you he gave Osho's definition of interventionalism) in order to further an ideal that he has admitted time and time again is a minority view. So we need not argue much anymore or waste our energy, its in print.

3. Toramana Lala also has had to resort to a flawed historical narrative that we are dealing with in the Arab Imperialism thread.


In the end, many fence sitters will digest these posts and end up realizing that the struggle that is being undertaken by the bare foot Afghans of the hills and the gullys is no different than the struggle against occupation that they cheered when watching Brave Heart. They will have to address their consistencies there. But now the trend in this society is to mix the boys and girls...so much so that in UofT and some business and restaurants...they are now promoting "unisex" toilets....a fool like you secretly wishes for this the day when men and women share locker rooms too. This is because fools like you appeal to novelty as a way to promote "progress" without even knowing what your goal is...you are whimscle. Its fast becoming a huge waste of time dealing with these folks. They recycle the same arguments ad infinitum. There should be some answer bank constructed where you just cut and paste old answers.

To be honest I find Baygham's assertion of playing a victim as one of those Generic last pitch desperate attempts to regain ground. Not that it is ieven irrelevant here, it seems that he's really projecting his own use of victim mentality pandering. How many times have we heard Baygham use orientalist rhetoric against our brethren to turn our animosity towards them over some orientalist concocted perceived victimization in some warped rendition of history.

To be accurate I place the blame of allowing others to interfere and meddle with us in the first place as within the hands of Muslims themselves; and in that it's our responsibility to purge any foothold they have in this world as hegemony. The fact they have used this to their advantage however is a crime that they are responsible for and this should be acknowledged simply for intellectual honesty's sake.

Dear SX, if the white men boarded someone on a ship and you find yourself identified with that, get over it, I am sure you were not alive 300 years ago. By same logic,should I go and ransack Bukhara for Uleg Beg killed the yousefzai forefathers in an ambush back in 1300 something.

If you are traumatized by the 'western demonic society', in which you were born, than dedicate your life to improving it and get some professional help. These demons that you see all around you, are just that, "your demons", some of us dont see them, dont care if they are in the closet or in the open and are not afraid of them.
